You can't go around customizing vehicles or borrowing prototypes just to scratch their paintjobs. If you've seen the movie making of thingies if you remember at one point Shia explains there were GM people constantly watching over the new BB camaro and telling him what to touch and not to touch, as it was a one-of-a-kind prototype.

I think you missed what i meant, though granted you got a valid point. What i meant was why be chipped and such in one mode but not the other, instead of purdy in both or chipped in both, just for consistancy's sake.---at least untill they start fighting.

NO, i didn't miss what you meant, but my explanation was not thorough enough, I guess - some details I assumed would be naturally known. Basically they're chipped in robot mode because that's the consistent thing to do from an absolute standpoint for ILM, the models would stand out too much if they were undamaged in battle zones. However, they did not have the legal or financial possibility to chip most of the vehicles.

There also is a matter of the order in which all that was created. When they filmed the live action parts I suspect they didn't even know ILM would be able to create such great-looking damage for the robots. Before the final rendering phases all they had to work with was "clean" models.

Again not what i ment. First scene with Op, clean and chromed, tf's and looks like his paint went through a blender. No fighting and such. Why not wait for the battle damaged look till after a friggin battle.
Did not mean, "why didn't they fuck up the cars right off the bat".

If you notice, Alot of them have the awesome paint jobs in their alt modes then scratched in robot even before any battles. I never got that.

Because undamaged robots look unrealistic. They could've kept the damage for after a battle, but there would still be that time where they had no paint chips and it would look unrealistic. It's hard to explain, but it was an unavoidable inconsistency

Actually he's got much less damage when he first appears than after the final fight, at first it could be seen as mere weathering. It's the vehicles that have been kept too clean as if it were a car ad (well, it partly is :p ).
