My parents never really let me have a lot of toys as a kid, which minimized my TF collection considerably. but i got to thinkin how strange my original line up of figures was when i was little.

    Autobots:

    Gunrunner
    Scattershot
    Hot Rod
    Ultra Magnus
    Action Master Rad
    Longtooth
    Crosshairs
    Ironworks

    Decepticons:

    Strangehold
    Starscream (G2)
    Shrapnel
    The Micromaster Decepticon Air Patrol

As far as a base went, i used boulder mountain from mask as decepticon Hq...

    I had 'The Hero'

....who was a Neo Viper with a missle superglued to his arm.
He could do anything , fall from any height, spyderman skilz, and there was always a river whenever he jumped off a cliff

The bad guy was another viper with a chain gun on his arm from the dredknok mobile.
He was like Megatron man or something

As a kid I had the following autobots:

    Jetfire
    Hound
    Jazz
    Prowl
    Grapple
    Seaspray
    Brawn
    Swerve
    Powerglide
    Mirage
    Wheeljack
    Twin Twist

    And the following Decepticons:
    Bombshell
    Runabout
    Runamuck
    Octane

The Decepticons were crazy-outnumbered! I've no idea why I had no leaders but I was always jealous of the kid next door who had Optimus Prime.

Interesting question, as I'm sure most of us had to do with a rather patchwork crew of Bots and Cons... :)

My parents didn't buy a whole lot of toys as a kid... most of my TFs were actually bought second hand with my own money, so often I was missing parts. At its preadolescent prime, I think my collection was something like this:

    AUTOBOTS:
    Optimus Prime (yay!)
    Prowl
    Sunstreaker
Mirage (krazy glued together at the waist)
    Inferno
    Tracks
    Overdrive
    +
    Windcharger
    Brawn
    Huffer
    Pipes
    Powerglide
    Yellow Cliffjumper
    Red Bumblebee
    +
    Super Gobot Defendor (aka "Roadbuster"!)
    Snarl
    +
    The Protectobots
    +
    3 Convertors Avarians (bird guys)

... so not a bad crew of good guys when I really look at it. Optimus, an assortment of cars, some minibots and one Combiner. Reasonable.

    DECEPTICONS
I got a Megatron for Xmas as one of my very first Transformers. Unfortunately another kid stole him before the collection got much bigger, so good ol' $13 Radio Shack Galactic Man, AKA "Shackwave" got to lead my Decepticons. Sigh... my Prime and Megatron never got to meet each other. :(
    +
    Soundwave + all 5 1984 cassettes
    Thundercracker (with 2 left fists)
    +
    Bombshell/Shrapnel/Kickback
3 Convertors Insectors used as additional Insecticon characters
    +
    the Combaticons
    +
Sharkticon Gnaw (weird one, I know)

Hm. Again the Decepticons are chronically outnumbered.

It's kind of weird to look on my collection now, and compare it to the Transformers that started it all. My days (and toys) as an adult collector now number far far greater than as a child collector. That almost seems sad. ;)

That's a good chunk of what I remember I had (before G2 came out). Plus I used old milk crates for my bases :)

Tricky question, really, as I didn't really have 'the ones that I had as a kid' - my collection's just kept growing since '84, and I haven't had that stop period that a lot of collectors do. I still have the ones that I got early on (barring my original Ravage, who some little toerag nicked), and I have little recollection (barring particularly memorable occasions like Christmases, birthdays and special outings) of what I got when.

I do particularly remember a photo I took at the end of '84/beginning of '85, though, showing the whole of my then-collection on the back step. It consisted of Huffer, Gears and Prime against Soundwave and Buzzsaw.

My parents didn't buy me a lot of TF's so the majority(Not that there were many) were found at yard sales or traded for.

    Autobots

    Silverbolt
    Slingshot
    Swerve
    Bumblebee
    Hoist
    Powerglide
    Warpath
    Wheelie
Jetfire (With no arms! One of my yard sale finds, what's funny is he's the only one of my original crew that's survived to this day. Still need to get 'em some arms though!)

    Decepticons

    Motormaster
    Wildrider
    Onslaught
    Hunn-Gurr
    Bombshell
    Soundwave

I also had a few gobots and dollar store transforming robots to fill out the ranks. As for bases one was behind the couch and another was under a desk. Hehehe those were the good 'ol days.

I remember as a kid only having Wheeljack and Goldbug. I think I had Puzzler for a while. We were pretty poor growing up, but I've made up for it over the years, even bought one kid's whole collection and gave it to my little brother when he was like 5. Including a Megatron that was complete and still had the box.

I honestly don't remember playing with any of them in teams. When I got a Transformer, I would stick with that until I got a new one. Probably because I was always running around the neighborhood.

Devastator and Astrotrain were often teamed up against Mirage and various G.I. Joe's as I recall. Often, the Ninja Turtles joined the fray and were sometimes joined by some MOTU figures. When things got really tough for the good guys, they called on Western Fun Ken(I have a big sister, sue me:D ) to be their giant slayer.

All of my Transformers (and my best friend's) were, for the most part, on the same side. They fought worn out concepts like TMNT, MOTU, Star Wars, and whatever other villain we could come up with. Somehow, they were organized into families, so whenever new bots were bought, there'd be a lot of additions to the family. Ah, I remember Baby Predaking well.

I had a very unbalanced collection as a kid (something which extended into most toy lines I got into back then - lots of good guys, few bad guys).

    Ultra Magnus
    Hot Rod
    Kup
    Blurr
    Swoop
    Chromedome
    Windcharger
    armless Brawn
    First Aid
    Slingshot
    Groove
    Afterburner
    Tailgate

    Wideload
    Rollbar
    Chase
    Scoop

    Blot

Fights tended to be a bit uneven.
