They've been discontinued since the start of the year in some European countries (if not the whole of Europe). I guess other continents probably still had some overstock...

    The replacement does indeed suck.

I bought 2 before covid. Only ended up putting together 1 to realize I needed a ton of then or I needed bigger. Offered to sell the one I never put together local for cost which was still like $70. No one wanted it even though they were already now at 100. So ended up just giving to my girlfriend since she wanted to put her lego harry potter sets in it. Once I figure out what I do need size wise and how to get it I'll probably try to sell the other again locally. Because no way this is getting shipped.

Sucks that the Detolfs are discontinued, those were the first Ikea cases I bought. I've since moved on from them because I needed larger cases (Milsbo and Rudsta cases are great), but the Detolfs were always pretty good.

Best we can all do is write IKEA, I guess. Hopefully if enough people do this, they’ll consider restarting production.

I don’t care for the replacement either.

Gonna be frank here, Detolf's attractiveness was their $59 price point. It was a lot for that. When they hiked the price over the last few years, the value of it went down significantly. It became better to get a nicer, larger case and pay a bit more, than several of them, especially when you threw in the enhancements to make detolf's really shine.

My current case of choice is the Ikea Rudsta double wide, which I believe runs $170 each now (I got them at $130). Each Rudsta has a minimum of 1.5 Detolf's worth of space (approximately 6 "cells"), but because of its double-wide nature, it's actually somewhat greater because titan figures and combiners have more room to flex. In prior versions of the display, I've put 4 combiners side to side along the back of a shelf. The entire Bayverse studio series, including Devastator, can fit on two shelves.

Because Rudstas are shorter (dresser sized), I flipped one. The last step involves installing the shelf holders upside down and (with help if needed), lifting the (heavy) shelf onto the other upside down. Presidently, half my display is detolfs and half my display are Rudstas.

I have an iPhone 15 on the way so I'll do a whole collection showing when it gets her

Very cool. I have a Rudsta, and never even thought of stacking them this way. Excellent stuff. Did you have to reinforce the legs on the bottom Rudstas at all to hold the additional weight? If not, as long as those legs are strong enough, I may get a second Rudsta and do this.

Also, Happy Holidays to everyone on here!

Nope! I did nothing special to them other than install the shelf clips upside down. They're completely stock.

Yes. They are officially discontinued as of January 2024. Any remaining stock is all that's left.

They've been replaced with the Blaliden.
    BLÅLIDEN Glass-door cabinet, white, 133/4x125/8x591/2" - IKEA

Blaliden has an aluminum frame. It's overall volume is smaller (probably ~20%). Every shelf is smaller, but they can now offer it again at $80.

I had to give up my office when my two older kids decided they wanted their own rooms. solid_strider jr. “borrowed” my lone Detolf and constantly rearranged his displays and wanted me to post this with this year’s Christmas presents included:

Put me down for random shattering of detolfs....

This will be such a pain in the butt to clean up and tear down.

this is why I gave my unassembled one away and I am probably going to get rid of the one I have my 3rd party and machine robo in. Seems like they cheapened them out right before covid.

I have 6 detolfs, 5 of them were way pre covid one was during covid like spring 2020 IIRC. Not sure how I would tell the difference though.

I think I'm going to try to order a new pane from my glass guy instead of replacing all 6 with stationary shelves or trying to buy a whole new one 2nd hand.

We shall see, it'll be a pain in the butt either way though, that I know for sure.
