With the energon/cybertron toys I transformed them they way I remembered on the show.

but most of the time I do a combination of doing it myself and checking the instructions. Sometimes if I get really stumped I try to find a video review of the figure.

I tend to follow the instructions the first time, in case there are optional bits or extra gimmicks, and so I know what the official transformation looks like. Subsequently I tend to do them freeform.

For me i've always used the instruction booklet no matter what. b'coz of a prior incident dat happen aeons ago (when i was a kid) when i almost broke the toy while transforming it . it traumatize me somewhat. especially when the movi toys first came out it brought back some of the bad memories (i.e movi Ironhide).

But still dat doesn't mean i have to use the instruction all the time. TF toylines like the classics series was a rather piece a cake. that said in terms of preference, i prefer the Takara instruction more than Hasbro's. it's more visually striking graphically & the steps are bit more clearer.

No matter what I'm transforming, I usually try to go for the head reveal as the final step in transformation, just for dramatic purposes, The Leader Brawl and Optimus were really cool about letting me do that without it getting too complicated.

First time with instructions, but afterwords in any way I feel. Except with masterpieces. I fear and respect them too much.

Figuring out how to transform a Transformer without instructions is half the fun of owning them.
This is turning into a serious addiction!
