What a shame. I've been watching the slow disentegration of his vac metal chest since I got him. First noticed the damage after maybe a year on the shelf and now it's reached this level. Mind you, he's remained completely untouched after I initially handled him. This has all happened on its own. I looked around ebay a bit and it is a common problem with loose Ultra Jetstorms. Any thoughts on why that is? I mean, I have a truck load of vac metal beasts as well as older, far less quality, vac metal toys and this has never before happened. You'd think by the time Beast Machines rolled around they would have perfected the process... Being as the problem is limited to loose examples, I'm surmising it's the result of an interation between the botched vac metal and oils on human skin. How has Botcon Cyclonus fared over the years? Anyone open theirs? Also, there was a Japanes release, yes? I still have a sealed Jetstorm but would like to find a displayable version that this won't happen to.
From what I've heard it was some kind of manufacturing error. Irrelevant to me, I have Ultra Jetsrorm but don't like the mold much at all.
I was under the impression for some time that was going to happen eventually to all Transmetals and likewise shiny BM figures...
Mine has got off lightly. Just a few criss crossed lines, and one patch that's cracked off. I guess if it ever got really bad like that one, I'd take it all off, and use some metallic blue paint to redo it so it at least looked nice again.
My TM Rattrap did that, I'm with Omegus Prime, I call it "Battle Damage Rattrap"! Worst part was trying to get all those flakes out of the display case!
mine is going too, only transmetal style painted figure i have that is doing it. i dont care so much, as long as my TM Tarantuals and Rampage dont do it.
that is freaky...I have the ultra jetstorm and the beast machines returns jetstorm and the botcon cyclonus....all loose and sitting on a shelf for over a year and they are all pristine with no indications of the paint even looking scratched.....
omg, I am so freaked out by this. my collection has been sitting in boxes in my dad's house in florida for 2 years, and later this month I'm going down to retrieve it all. I don't know what I'll do if I open them and find this...
I'm a fan of the Ultra Jetstorm mold and have several. The chrome-rot seems to vary, though it is common. I've got two (one in sealed box, one that's knocked around the house for years) which have very minimal cracking around a few edges. One in a display case that hasn't flaked off, but has tons of cracks through the chrome when I last looked, and one or two others with moderate amounts of flaked-off metal finish.
I just checked mine. He's in a storage bin with some original G1 figures. Other then a chip on the raised section, mostly likely an impact scratch from when I moved, he's fine, no flaking, no crack patterns, nothing. So either mine was from a fine batch, or due to limited contact and being in a bin, hasn't deteriorated.
Its happened extremely on my jetstorm, a little bit on my rattrap, but depending on conditions the others I've had no issues with. My TM Rhinox has i think a small chip but thats from being tipsy once.
I had 2 & it happened to both of them. I got rid of them. I didn't like the mold anyway so I don't miss them.
