The green is not quite as bright as it is in the pictures... and it would be easy to paint over/dye it into a black or gray, so it doesn't kill the figure really. And it's a hell of a lot better than the hideous Cybertron/Universe repaint version of the same mold! Eye-melting YELLOW!! But FYI, the Super Link version (which if I recall correctly is actually called Wheeljack) is molded in steel grey rather than the snotty green colour, so he blends in a bit better. Here's a gallery from Remy's http://tfkenkon.com/collection/act257/ And here are a couple of pics of what I did with my Superlink Wheeljack to make him more "classic". zmog
woah...howd you do that? is it a heavy custom? or just something simple like the alternator prowl leg swap?
It's actually a really easy mod, that's almost ALL screwdriver work. To finish it properly you need to glue a swivel joint in where his old Powerlinx connectors are, so his upper torso turns around. At the moment, the canopy/doors on his back need to be removed in the transformation, but I'm working on getting them to fold up on the backs of the legs. Other than that, he transforms perfectly this way. I was surprised how well it turned out. I always call my energon Downshift Whelljack, But i still call Cybertron Downshift Downshift just to think of him as a Distant relative.
In terms of the engineering and the "authenticity" of the alt mode, yeah, the Cybertron version is better. But it's hard to beat the colour deco and styling on Superlink Wheeljack (in Japan he IS Wheeljack!) for straight up G1 homage. I do like the Cybertron head a bit more, which is why I transplanted it to the Energon figure. Once I find a new head, and paint him up red, I think my Cybertron Downshift will become my Classics Windcharger... zmog
Smog, your custom job is brilliant. I have DS on a want list and be assured he'll get this mod done to him.
