He's right. I used to own them and he's absolutely right. Great to track down if you LOVE MM Bases, are a completist, love Japanese robots, or just like later G1 stuff. While I miss Sonic Bomber the most, I don't think I'll be plunking down mad cash for them again unless I can find them for cheap. Attemping to buy them seperate is going to take you a long time. If you have to have them, go for Big Powered, or at least try to find either Sonic or Road first.
Sonic bomber is the only hard one to track down. The japanese g1 figs are some of the best transformer figures made.
Since I've repaired my KO I might go for the Brave repaint. The KO is OK but it doesn't go backwards & the drill doesn't turn. I'm curious to see everything working properly so I'll probably go for the Brave version. That way I can have both colors & at least one will work right. Thomas from Toyarena says he has 1 Goryu left but it's missing some parts. He wants me to give him time to find it & see exactly what's missing & then write back in a couple days. How difficult will it be to hunt one down MIB complete? What's a good price for Goryu? And what's the difference betwen Goryu & White Dragon? Is Goryu the Japanese release & White Dragon the Korean release? Nah, Roadfire looks really stupid. I'm mildly interested in Sonic Bomber but mainly into Dai Atlas because he sort of goes together with Star Convoy. I'm not interested in hunting down the Big Powered set & really not interested in the price. Yeah, that's the one I was talking about with the yellowing plastic. If I'm gonna spend $800.00 on Transformers I'm gonna get most of my G1 collection back. not gonna spend all that money on just one set. Like I said above, Roadfire doesn't look too impressive to me, especially with his feet up in the air.
I guess I am backwards. I love Roadfire and hate Sonicbomber. All the big Japanese TF's are bricks, but most of them just look awesome.
I was just messing with my Dagbase & wondering WTF they were smoking when they designed it. It kinda reminds of the Go-Bots base Thruster, the way the front opens & that's about it. Grandus/Dagbase are really cool because Zoids weapons fit on them. Dagbase + Buster Eagle's cannons looks fricken sweet! Now that I think about it, just stick some Decepticon symbols on Thruster & it could be another MM base. It transforms just like Grandus so why not?
Grandus has a goofy robot mode, but I think the base & vehicle modes are pretty cool. Though I mostly want one so I can hook him up with my Star Convoy.
that's where I was at when I got them--I was trying to get all of the japanese-only bots. I did end up with most of them, but I'm still lacking four big ones and the dino-cassettes, which I'll never get unless I end up with a GOOD paying job.
Grandus / Dagbase's base mode is pretty awesome once you start putting other things around it. If you've got Dagbase and the Liner Dagwon set, try putting the trains on the ramps, it looks pretty cool.
I was looking at the superliner set last night. I'd like to get it someday, maybe if Toyarena has Goryu I'll also pick up the superliner at the same time. But in the meantime I put Classics Astrotrain & the RID trains with him & they look great!
Like all owners of the Big Powered Set, don't get it. Unless you're really crazy. It's really not worth the money unless you're crazy about the giftset. Now that I look back at it, I saw plenty of chances of getting roadfire or sonic bomber for cheap. And if you get the good quality KO Dia Atlas, you're been fine. I on the other hand was very stubborn. If I could do it all over, I would do it the cheap way. The micromasters themselves aren't really that great either. The micromaster for sonic bomber is so tight, I'm afraid to transform it cause I'm afraid I'll break him. And that's the last thing I need to break after spending so much money on the powered giftset.
I have all 3 but got them years ago for a pretty cheap price,I got my son the KO Atlas at Botcon a couple years back and compared to the real thing it sucks! The c-888 is o.k if you keep it in the box for display as the toy plastic is not good quality and the parts do not line up well, Also with the bootleg sometimes they work and sometimes not so its a crap shoot! I think buying the big p giftset would be cheaper as if I recall correct about 6 months ago I saw one end $550-$600.
dai atlas and sonic bomber (hes got pointy shoes!) is up there on my to get list. love the inclusion of base mode, motorized parts and MM. road caesar, not so much. kinda think he looks like ass in base mode.
