The white version looks to be made from translucent plastic and have very little paint apps. It's a shame, it could have been much better. Don't know if it'll change for the final version, but I actually kind of like the shiny mustardy colour Ratchet is, I just don't really like that design for Ratchet. |

I see roadside hazard vehicles that color all the time here so I'm used to them. I can understand people being put off by the color if they're not around it though. I'm really looking forward to getting Ratchet |

I don't think what colour the vehicle most often tends to be in real life should be a factor, most of our ambulences are a HORRID colour around here, they're septic looking. If it makes the character look like shite, you shouldn't bother making it as "realistic" as possible. |

To clear some stuff up for folks who may not have have the actual Ratchet... it's not a "mustardy" colour at all, nor is it fluorescent like most rescue vehicles. It's a dull guacamole green colour... about as close to snot green as possible, and simultaneously nowhere near an olive colour that would make him look sort of "military". It's not a pretty colour, and I have to say the red accents don't help much.
Further, his plastic has that vaguely translucent consistency that people like to gripe about... and he lacks contrast big time. I think both versions of Ratchet would really benefit from some panel-lining or a light wash to bring out the details.
Looking at these factors, I dont' think that white is as bad as everybody says. Granted, the white will yellow with the ages, as white plastic tends to. C'est la vie.
I like the Ratchet mold for the most part, but he doesn't really say " G1 Ratchet" to me in either colour, so I don't really see the need to give him a white scheme. Personally, I'm planning to repaint or dye him into some sort of desert drab, and convert him into a military hummer. Maybe I'll rename him Roadbuster or something.

I have no idea what people are talking with the plastic. It looks fine to me, but it's not like you can determine the quality of a toy's plastic from a photgraph on the internet.
I probably won't be getting either. I'm not a fan of the H2, and dressing it up like an off road vehicle makes it look even worse. I'm also put off by his vehicle mode being so badly out of scale with the other Autobots. I've seen H2s. They aren't that big. |
