News Credits: 4 | They're still better to me...I like the new sculpts and the modern take on some characters, but even though newer technology is supposed to make things better, I get aggravated with poor QC, some transformations that are too complex, etc. The old ones were just so much better even if they were bricks. I'm more of a collector/displayer than a "fiddler" anyway, so articulation is low on the totem pole for me. | Im with my fellow No mam:er here

Anyway, G1 toys are over for me. In the mid 90's early 2000 I got all the figures I never had as a child (Hot Rod, Galvatron, Omega Supreme, Megatron), and usually ended up disapointed in them anyway. Toys have improved a lot since then, especially in the articulation field.
I haven't gotten any of the encores, and the only re-issue I got was Skywarp on clearance. For me, it's the new stuff that I like that I buy, and fiddle with.

close 2nd in my books are Takaras Original Car Robots (RID), like Fire Convoy, God Magnus, JRX, and what ever the 3 cars names are. Totally amazing designs. Super God Convoy is just a blast to play with. There's so much you can do with the two figures, so many moving parts, so many weapons. Some of the best engineering ever.
I bought Animated Voyager Prime months ago, and havn't touched him since.. he sucks. He has this crappy water pistol, an axe that doesn't look like anything. He's posable I guess, but not really any fun. He doesn't do anything but have the nifty face plate which was done way better on cybertron prime.
actually maybe that's part of the whole problem, going from an amazing design like Cybertron Prime which had a trailer, tons of weapons, two robot modes, combined with other figures, had electronics, firing missiles... to a boring prime that doesn't really do much of anything.

That said, I do much prefer more modern lines to the older ones. |

I like the fact that they can all be transformed PERFECTLY (no loose gaps or tabs that haven't quite fit together) in less than 20 seconds. while the articulation may not be the best, they're all rock solid in both bot and alt modes. sometimes simpler > complex designs.

I love Primus and Unicron, too, though they come from different lines. I think each line has had at least a few figures that kick ass. Having said that, Classics and Animated has supplanted (temporarily) my G1 love. I can get more of them for a cheaper price since they're available at retail. When they discontinue these lines, I'll resume my hunt for G1 stuff. I still make G1 acquistions from time to time. I like some G1 models better than their modern counterparts. |

god ginrai is one i mess around with a lot, now he really is a brickmaster but theres something very satisfying about being able to shift form from alt>base>various robots within seconds, theres none of the perhaps frustrating line up and squeeze into place of the new toys. |

I love both G1 styles, the more real type ex diaclone stuff and then the blockier all plastic later toys, the diaclone type stuff is perhaps cooler but theres a funkiness in something like apeface that i really like.
funnily enough i find animated voyager prime to be AS great as theat old stuff, axe aside i think both alt mode and robo mode are great and with a very simple though dynamic TF, i do see how hes less impressive than cybertron prime but for me personally i prefer the look of the simpler animated toy whereas the cybertron toy certainly has more play value, well at least in the 'giant robot' sense, animated prime is les a robot and more a human soldier figure. i think kids could like either though. |

almost every animated toy i have has some type of issue related to the moulds eg swindles chest doesnt click in, grimlocks rear lower leg doesnt click in, voyager earth primes bumper doest click into the back of the leg on one side, setinel primes shoulders seems like they were supposed to click in (actually i wonder about that one as they are not even close) and thats aside from the looseness issues at various ball and pin joints. etc, etc. |
