It is a very high quality KO. If I didn't know it was a KO, I wouldn't really have guessed. Only downside I can see is that some joints may be a bit loose (which you can fix very easily), including the gas tank gun. The way you can identify it is the silver paint on the front "toe" piece (you can kind of see the red through it) and the vents of the sides of his face end it a straight line instead of a curved line like the official figures.

I could go into nitpicks, some paints scratches on it and odd blotches on the chrome, but that can happen on any figure so I don't really count it. I'd highly recommend it if you want a Buster Prime and don't want to pay outrageous prices for it.

Anything that cheap coming out of China is a KO "reissue" not to mention it has the original G1 packaging, any legit reissue would have new packaging or at least new date/logos/etc. Like last year's Ultra Magnus that basically looks like the G1 package but it says "commemorative" on it and has call-outs for other re-issued figures on the side.

Its also worth pointing out that currently there are a ton of "reissue" G1 Ultra Magnus figures on ebay where some use a new G1 package and some have pics of the real Commemorative one from last year, all for ~$60. So be skeptical there too.

That was my first thought with the price, but I just didn't know for sure. Thanks!

Is there mp megatron? There have been some really cheap priced megatrons on ebay, not listed as ko. One seller did list one as a ko lot

Any tips on telling an authentic MP-16 (Frenzy & Buzzsaw) from the KO set? I'd like to add an authentic set to my collection, but the KO seems VERY good in most respects and pretty much impossible to tell from just the box. They don't seem to be in stock at any of the reputable sellers I usually buy from. I'm worried about paying eBay prices for a set advertised as authentic only to find out later it was a KO.... Thanks in advance.

I have both. From the outside, the legit boxes have ridges like corrugated cardboard. KO is smooth. On the figures, paint is sloppier on KO but they are more than adequate. My Takara Frenzy (blue) broke the first time I transformed it. Leg broke at the ball joint. I used the KO to repair. The blue is a slightly different shade.

I'm trying to track down a non-KO Human Alliance Bumblebee on ebay. That's apparently harder to do than I thought. I contacted the seller of one such Bee, and when asked if it was a knock-off via PM (it was not stated either way in the description), they said:

"Thank you for your inquiry. It is OEM Chinese version, not the original one but still with good quality, hope it helps."

What exactly does this mean? The factory that the official ones were made churned out some KOs, and that's what he's selling?

And better question, how can I get a 'real' HA BB? :D

Any HA Bumblebee out of China or Hong Kong is probably going to be a knockoff. Though, if you can find one with a big Chinese sticker on the back of it (Covers a third of the box!), that one is legit.

As for how to track down a legit one... I don't know if there's a way to tell the difference from just looking at pictures on Ebay. This is a really exacting copy. If I were you, I'd try to find someone selling it domestically and ask when/where they bought it, and just trust that they're not lying about that...

    It means it's a knockoff.

And yes it likely means the factory contracted to manufacture them also churned out a boatload of KO's not being sold through official channels. It's a HUGE problem in China with Chinese factories. In order to be able to sell into China's growing market they have to manufacture in China. But as soon as they do the Chinese factory will copy or steal their tooling and designs and start bootlegging.

Be careful when you purchase Human Alliance figures on Ebay. Most, if not all of them, are KOs. Got a few of them myself. They look 99% like the real thing, very hard to tell the differences through pictures. However when you have them in hand, very easy to tell since they don't transform very well and can't roll smoothly since all the pieces don't fit together precisely.

Is there a way one can tell the difference between an authentic G1 Galvatron particle cannon versus the KO/repo particle cannon?

Hey everyone, been reading through this thread after happening upon a listing on eBay for a set of KO "reissue" Dinobots. The price I thought was good for display pieces, as I never had any of the Dinobots as a kid nor as an adult collector. That started me down a rabbit hole of looking at the KO "reissue" combiner team giftsets as well -- the only G1 combiner I have is Menasor. So I wanted to ask you all a couple of questions as a guy who has never "pulled the trigger" on any of these KO "reissues":

Is the quality of these pieces "just for display," or if my 6 year old wanted to "play robots" with me, would they hold up? Specifically, the ones I am looking at are the Dinobots, Aerialbots, and Terrorcons.

And for the combiner teams, do the gift box KO sets come with the combiner pieces: feet, hands, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The combiner KOs are good enough for display if you get them cheap, but they're not as good as legit reissues. I bought KOs of Menasor and Superion and ended up re-selling them at cost because the joints were all loose and some things didn't fit together properly. (combiner hands/feet, one of the stunicons hoods and another one's legs).

I hear the dinobots are really good (and they dont' have to combine so there's less moving parts and not as many small parts like the cominers) and I've heard the KO autobot cars (mirage, wheeljack, sunstreaker) are pretty close to original, just with more QC issues.

I would suggest going to ioffer.com instead of ebay though, you'll save about 20-30%, it'll just take longer to ship.

Thank you for the response and advice, Benjamin! Looks like I should hold off on the Aerialbots, but I might pick up the Terrorcons, and at least try one of the Dinobots. Thanks!
