No expert but I think the paint on the figure is a factor like Dinobot and Megatron.

I have never seen a KO of this figure (assuming eBay would be flooded with them, but there is only a few “+” figures listed for sale at any time). Assuming you are selling it on here or eBay, I will be on the lookout for your listing!

I have never seen a KO of a + figure either. Look for its date code stamped into the plastic or printed on it. For mp-17+ it’s on the lower leg or foot. It should match or be within a few days of the stamp on the box. The stamp will be pressed into the cardboard and depressed around the edges of the stamp. If it is cut in, the cardboard will still be smooth and flat around the edges. That is a KO. This only applies to the the Takara box because it 2-ply and thicker. On a Takara release the stamp will be next to the bar code. On a Hasbro USA release it will be on the back of the black outer sleeve box. If it has the black outer sleeve, it is most likely not a KO because KO companies never went to the trouble of copying the Hasbro black sleeve. If it doesn’t have a stamp on the Takara box it could still be legit if someone got it from Hasbro but threw the black sleeve away. Phew!! Any questions?

My copy of MP-17+. Authentic TakaraTomy but a Hasbro release. No date code on inner box only on black sleeve. Hasbro date codes are only numbers. Takara starts with a letter.
IMG_6486.jpeg Authentic TakaraTomy. Made in China- stamp font and size vary.

Authentic TakaraTomy. Made in Vietnam- Small stamp; size and font are consistent.

Hey, does anyone have any experience with these allegedly genuine Studio Series figures on AliExpress? Brawl and both versions of Starscream are usually listed together. Descriptions (and occasionally reviews) claim they're legitimate, but they average for around only $30. I might've taken them at their word if it wasn't for a single listing I saw that had "KO" in the title.

EDIT: I got a forward answer from one of the stores, saying they're factory-produced and not officially approved, but technically still "real". I know about factory prints, didn't realize that's what these probably were. Nice to know for future purchases and anyone else interested.

Yeah, AliExpress has a lot of official figures available, and some at good prices. I got Blackout, SS06 and SS21 Starscreams, and Brawl from AE. I would try to find sellers with good ratings, but yeah, it's all legit.

Thanks for the confirmation. I owned a factory print of one of the premium AoE Leader Optimus variants years ago, and it was indistinguishable from an official product at a fraction of the price.

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask but can someone recommend any non-oversized KOs for combiners? It seems thay most are over-sized.

The truth is this: Hasbro’s production run of TT stuff is actually its own production run, independent of its Japanese production run.

Yes that’s correct that Hasbro’s production run is separate. That’s why they have different date codes in a different code style. For Masterpiece, Hasbro used to use their own packaging and would use different colors or sometimes less paint to save costs. Sometime around MP-14 I think, Hasbro decided to stop spending the money for totally different packaging and making other changes. That’s when they started using the black “Authentic Takara Tomy Product” outer boxes, at least in the U.S. By Japanese production run you must mean Takara Tomy’s own run because they are made in Chinese and Vietnamese factories.

The only 1:1 sized KO's of official Hasbro combiners I'm aware of are for some of the Combiner Wars versions like these:

    upload_2023-11-1_9-28-7.png

They're all over ebay and Aliexpress. The dead giveaway is the goofy faction symbol they use instead of official Decepticon or Autobot logos. The quality on these are decent for the price, but not as good as official obviously. FYI, they also make an undersized KO of Combiner Wars Devastator that scales well with the other Combiner Wars bots. --SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!!!! -- I have one of those undersized Devys for sale with proper Decepticon logos added if anyone is interested.

Yes that is correct they also in 2006 TT would even used denser plastic for some figures and stopped doing that they also use black screws over the silver ones thou that has also stopped too. Mainly the only exceptions appear to be the LG-EX stuff which is rare these days (being done that is). Hasbro and TT has separate runs TT aids in securing the factories to do the work and sorta acts like a satellite office to oversee production in some aspects. Not all the things get talked about but a few higher-ups do mention stuff like how they used Canada as the first release test area but changed that over to Australia. They also tend to do batches like Titans Return Trypticon i think got made in 7 or 8 batches but was the same figure for both versions. Now for the KO aspect the KO companies usually only pick one version to KO and they do that in 1 to 3 days but that area in China is shutting down so there might not be much or any new KOs being made due to that they might try some to try and stay open.

Factories often produce overstock and looks like this is the case they did get made at the factory. There are many factories being shut down in China right now and my guess is the seller is trying to purge these to meet the bills. Keep in mind they can make 8 or more thousand each day and one person easily manages several machines once they are running mainly it's fill the hoppers with more plastic pellets and broken up sprus from previous runs. The worry could be is those are the rejects like they might have a single flaw hence why the price is so low. I don't think they are trying to con you but some of those factory owners are flat broke and not sure how to buy food the next day right now so pretty sure they don't care what Hasbro thinks about it.
