So I was just thinking or wondering why MP figures aren't the same size as CHUG. and that led me to question, if MP Figures were EXACTLY the same, but in scale with CHUG figures, would I get them, and I think I would. but what does everyone else think

My answer would be maybe. I don't collect Masterpiece figures because I can stomach spending $50-70 for carbots and $100+ on everything else. Plus by going the cheaper route, I'm not freaking out when my $10 Universe 2.0 Bluestreak has a crack in the hip joint.

As long as they are 15 dollars if their the size of deluxes or 25 if they are the size of voyagers.

The reason I hate Masterpieces is because they are so expensive and yet they feel like their made of cheaper plastic then my CHUG figures. Overall, they are not worth the price asked while with CHUGs I get my money's worth and then some.

I probably would. I toyed with the idea of slowly replacing CHUG characters over time. Eventually just moved my MP to another shelf because of the aesthetic differences.

Yeah, I'm guessing that most people would get them instead of your average CHUG figure. It's not like HasTak can't make quality figures they simply realise that make qaulity figures from the gate hurts their bottom line.

If MP's where in CHUG sizeclasses (like a certain KO OP) i would buy certain characters in that toyline. Characters for whom it matters to me that their toys look more cartoonaccurate or characters whose chug toy is otherwise unsatisfactory to me.
I would as the case stands at least buy: OP, Megatron (maybe), Soundwave, Astrotrain (the other triple changers too possibly), Shockwave, probably all of the headmasters (the TR toys look great and i'll most likely buy them all, but i would imagine the size of these chug-mp's would be more to my taste. and i'm not enterly happy with TR Mindwipe). Most other characters i am content with a chug version with a good updated altmode: most of the CW or UW guys including the carbots i'm very happy with. What i would not buy chug-MP versions of are the seekers. i think an updated slightly upscaled version of the classic seeker mold would satisfy me more, the MP seekers just don't look very nice imo.

If the prices went down to CHUG prices, maybe? They might be too complex at that size, though, and I already worry about breaking the MPs at their current sizes, so that maybe veers more toward "no." I kind of like the "updated" aspect, but the whole 80's look is undoubtedly appealing and I have been wowed by the look of MPs, so there's another factor in the "maybe" category.

I'd most certainly be stumbling over myself to get MP-10 the height of CW Optimus, regardless of my above commentary.

I guess my answer will be different based on timing.

If MPs had been made the same size from the beginning, then I guess yes, but I'd probably still pick and choose which I felt worked best.

If MPs were made the same size now and going forward, I'd only bother with figures that don't have a definitive Classics figure already. I've picked up the XTB "MP" versions of Beachcomber, Huffer/Pipes, and Windcharger/Tailgate because those work for me as Classics better than any of the other official/third party Classics options (same goes for BC's Brawn/Outback, if I bothered to track a set down). For most of the rest, I'd prefer characters that don't have Classics figures showing up. I don't really need another of the '84-86 core cast that's nicer but the same or similar size as its Classics version. I'd much rather see Action Masters, Pretenders, Japanese G1, Diaclone, G2 and other stuff that hasn't been done show up. Basically, my Classics wants would be the same as they currently are anyways, despite the introduction of nicer, same-size MPs into the mix.

I collect both and love both, and am perfectly fine with each carving out its own unique niche in my collection. They both tap into my nostalgia and interests in this franchise in different ways, so "crossing the streams" doesn't get me excited much.

After going through my favorite characters as Alternators, the original MP line, and CHUG, I can honestly say that downsizing MPs to the CHUG scale wouldn't be appealing to me. The current MP line hits the absolute perfect size for a collection IMO, about 10" for an iconic hero and between 6"-8" for the smaller characters. The original MP and Alternators were simply too large while the CHUG scale works great as a toy but not as a display piece.

As it stands now, the current MPs simply fit better with common collector grade sizes such as 1/10 - 1/7 statues, 1/100 MG Gundams, or 1/60 Macross Valkyries.

I was just complaining about this the other day. Yes, I would absolutely prefer it if masterpieces could fit in with mainlines, or if they at least released downscaled versions that did, and I would gladly pay high prices for them too.

Like, there are a ton of Combiner Wars toys of obscure characters who will never be masterpieces. Don't you think it is just awful that these guys can not be displayed with masterpieces without looking ridiculously small, especially when they would look just fine otherwise?

i'm more, i wish the masterpiece cars were 1:24, as is now they are just an awkward scale to me, too small for the price, too big for classics. (plus too 'flat' and cartoon accurate in bot mode)

Dude, you're just making shit up if you think CHUGs are higher quality than MPs. I can see that with Tracks and Soundwave's cassettes, but hating something you can't afford is ridiculous. It doesn't matter it's third party, Takara or MP, you always knock them and claim it's about money when you're called out.

Back to the original post, yes. It would make completing a collection easier, even with figures that are a lot nicer than the others.

Honestly, some of the Generations figures aren't that far off in scale with Masterpiece figures....

Classics Jazz would be great scaled up to MP size.

I actually use some classics on my MP shelf. warpath, inferno, grapple, blitzwing to name a few.

No, I wouldn't be buying MP if they were classics scale. I dont love the G1 designs. I respect them. I like them. But I don't love them. I vastly prefer classics modernizing these characters.

Also I LOVE Cybertronian modes and G1 is not a good era of Cybertronian mode designs.

I would have collected Masterpiece if MP-10 came out earlier. The Masterpieces before MP-10 were too artistically designed and too mature for me. By the time MP-10 came out, I was already too deep in CHUG.

You can get MP and CHUG figures the same size. MP Bumblebee is a Deluxe. MP STarscream is a leader, and there is a Leader Starscream. Titans Return Soundwave is the same size as MP Soundwave. Leader Megatron is the same size as MP10.

I actually use the MP Decepticon cassettes for my CHUG collection. They are entirely the same size.

The thing I most dislike about MP toys is the Voyager sized Autobot cars. Those are too big for me. I prefer to go with alt mode size accuracy over toon robot mode, and to me Prowl, Tracks and Sideswipe look GIGANTIC in MP collections.

Your premise is flawed. For the last six years, Masterpiece figures have been produced at a consistent scale, based on a specific point of reference; Classics never established a consistent scale, and over the past decade we call "CHUG" the same characters have been produced in multiple size classes.

So what does "in scale with CHUG figures" even mean?

When the same sub-line gives us an Ultra-class Powerglide and a Deluxe-class Starscream, discussions of scale become irrelevant. It's a specious argument.

There are multiple CHUG scales, and I usually gauge them based on which CHUG Optimus Prime I use.

There is the Legends/Cyberverse Optimus, the Legends/Commander Optimus, Deluxe Optimus, Voyager Optimus, Ultra Optimus (which is Toyworld Orion) and Leader Optimus. Also, Leader Powermaster Optimus is sorta in scale with Voyager Optimus toys, since the cab is about as big as the Voyager.

I would. In fact I got MP Grimlock for my classics collection.
