Now I know this has been done ad nauseam, and most people here would go why do we need more G1 reissues?! Well, I'm asking just that. Do you guys think HasTak has any plans on reissuing the original G1 seasons 1-2 cast on the current generations line? I know in the early to mid 2000's we had a slew of these reissues and commemorative figure releases. I would however like to see a continuation of this on the current generations packaging. I think with the 30th anniversary of the original movie coming out it would be nice to see a fresh take on G1 reissues for collectors who may have missed out on previous runs. Any thoughts? Please no pitchforks at my doorstep.
I suspect the view is that the obvious choices have been reissued a few times already, and that the less obvious choices may have low demand even where it's the first reissue. They may also consider reissues as being less in demand due to the upswing in Masterpieces, real and 3P. I'm not shooting you down for wanting G1 reissues. Just speculating on why the two companies seem to have little interest in it these days.
Very appropriate and fair response. I didn't take it as such, I posted this thread knowing well and good that members would roll their eyes in disgust. That being said in regards to MP and 3P taking over the market, you might be right. I think however to back the incoming MP releases it would be nice to throw a few more G1's on the shelves at stores.
I just want a few more reissues Overlord Star Saber Victory Leo after that, they can stop making reissues
If we get anymore G1 reissues, they will probably be relegated to the Hasbro platinum line like last year's Astrotrain/Blitzwing; Insecticon, Conhead, Blaster/Perceptor, and Trypticon's sets. I'm not sure how well any of those sold though and whether it would warrant future G1 reissues. Personally, I hope they do put out some more. I actually prefer buying reissues over vintage since they are minty fresh from the box and complete at a more economical price sometimes than a vintage piece that may or may not be complete or unbroken. Last year's aforementioned Conehead set helped me finish my G1 seeker collection since I didn't have Thrust or Ramjet.
Other than the occasional Platinum reissue of G1 stuff (and even with that you apparently don't know what color they will be...), I think G1 reissues are pretty much done for now. We may get an Optimus Prime reissue, but that's probably it. The focus now is on MPs and new toylines like CW and TM. As for the Japanese G1 stuff like Victory Leo and Overlord (and anything else that was never reissued even once)? I think the chances for that are even less likely. As I mentioned in another thread, since Trypticon had never been reissued, I thought he'd sell out immediately, so I bought him right away at $200. He's currently selling for $140, and was at his cheapest at $120, and doesn't look like he's going to sell out anytime soon. So if that's an indicator of how good G1 reissues are selling, even ones that have never been reissued before, then that pretty much seals the deal.
This. I just bought the Habro reissue Sideswipe for this reason. I paid $45 USD shipped, and got a MISB Sideswipe that's never seen the light of day or child's play for a fraction of what a G1 goes for. I have nothing against vintage collectors and think that there is something uniquely amazing about the original, but for someone like me a reissue works just as great.
Totally agree with you there, although I admit that I do value having an original '1st release' of my favourite figures in my collection, even if I buy a reissue as an additional piece that I'm not scared to death of manipulating...
I happen to love reissues. Scorponok to finish the main city bot figures would be very welcome. The nearly impossible to get cassettes too. Not to mention the mini bots that didn't get reissued. Beachcomber, Seaspray, Bumper and Hubcap among others. Overlord. Star Saber and more. There's ton of great ones to still be done.
Some of my favorite TF's in my collection are reissues. I appreciate the chance to own Japanese exclusives such as Twincast, Soundblaster, Star Convoy, etc. I also appreciate some of the recolors such as cartoon color Galvatron and Nucleon Quest Super Convoy (who I turned into Nemesis Prime thanks to custom stickers from reprolabels). I hope reissues aren't done because I still want several more Japanese exclusives such as Metalhawk, Minerva, Raiden, Victory Saber, Black Zarak (cartoon yellow instead of the gold plastic), Overlord, Deszarus, etc.
At this point in my life, the only reissues I would buy are Scorponok and the 8 missing cassettes. Maybe Convoy again so my son can have one.
I wish they'd do it for the original cars and include the Diaclone pilots and other left out accesories. Wouldn't mind seeing the headmasters rereleased as well so we could do sort of a before and after with the TR stuff
other than Blitzwing and Astrotrain being stupid color changes, IMO that's a great year for collector-focused reissues, especially finishing the coneheads. i didn't pick any up due to 1. already having everybody and 2. being between jobs. -
