    What do you guys think?

With the Machinima show FINALLY about to arrive, the Combiner Wars figures are about to receive some actual marketing.

As CW figures inevitably cease their presence (on that single peg in Wal-Mart) and earlier waves already long gone, these guys are bound to become more sought after by folks who might not have consumed the whole line.

    Thoughts?

I was about to unload my Defensor with the new Deluxe Groove limb but I might hold off for a couple months and see what happens. :)

I believe many fans who would follow Machinima TF would already have CW or UW figures already. But you're right about the price. It's a shame that older waves are more expensive online now.

I don't see how 8 episodes of a 7 minute per episode show that's available only online is going to make the prices jump.

They're already getting up there for the early ones. I'm just glad I got all of mine at the beginning.

I believe instead of CW getting more expensive it will be the Takara counterparts that will, they have far superior paint apps, better (not excellent) joints and swivels, and just overall G1 Accuracy.Takara just seems to me to be more collectible than what Hasbro releases.

if this happens more platinum sets and bonus waves will arrive. with more Brakeneck and other exclusives angering scalpers and those who paid scalped prices.

Maybe not coinciding with the new CW show, but it would not surprise me if Hasbro does special "Platinum" combiner reissue box sets of the previous combiners a few years on down the road. That is depending on how well the molds hold up after all the multiple uses. I mean the helicopter mold alone has already been used about 7 times (counting the regular releases, the Touchbearer twins, TFCC Spinister, and G2 Vortex).

I think there is too much supply and access to various box sets and different options in CW and UW for too much a price hike after the line ends.

The boxsets for all of their combiners was a big draw for me.

Better paint apps (IMO) were just icing on the cake. :lol

The most expensive will be the replacement wave 1 & 2 guys. After that will be the rest of the wave 1 & 2 guys. Then will be all the "normal" G1 ones that weren't in box sets. I wouldn't expect the prime and skylinx deluxe waves will go for much over retail after a while.

The US box sets will all get clearanced in one way or another, so they will likely top out at $150ish, which isn't too bad considering the original retail. I'd expect the UW box sets to top out around $200, depending on how well they compare to the US ones.

They'll stay pricey for awhile until 5 years from now when Takara does MP combiners. Then they'll drop to super cheap, just like Chug stuff has.

Yeah, Resolute didn't exactly blow the lid off GIJoe sales. I doubt this will do much better in that department.

Nah. The only people buying Takara are the diehards who skipped CW specifically *to* buy Takara.

Especially since most of the Takara stuff comes out after the CW counterpart.

Didn't realize the toon was only 7 minutes of an episode? What the heck :p  That's kind of lame actually that they're so short...

Depends on which ones though I feel like. The single CW superion figures seem to have jumped considerable while you can still get the UW Superion box set for a reasonable retail price and still in stock.

That's when you know to unload :p

I agree that a 7 episode run of an 8 minute cartoon isn't going to make the figures appreciate.

Really? I'm surprised they're doing that much. I was expecting a CCG slideshow with every ounce on non-content hyped to the moon like the 2nd coming of TF:TM.

Yeah these guys will have a brief climb in price after they are cleared from the shelves, takara will do something better, possibly in the MP line, bottom drops out on these guys. Even worse then animated.

Thing is while they are fun, they are not generally very good toys unless you dump the extra into some upgrade kits. The only figure I actually see retaining some value is probably skylynx due to the rarity, demand, and that it's supposedly a great toy once you fix a couple issues.

    Good input all around, guys...
The nay-sayers certainly could be right but I feel like certain patterns have emerged in this hobby that are due to repeat.

Take Beast Wars Razorbest-- a nice but totally forgettable wave 1 basic figure who was different tooling of a much more popular character (Rattrap). He gets a starring role in one comic book and instantly, he goes from an $8 ebay item to a $25 eBay item. Sure, prices have settled back down (the comic book was years ago at this point) but all it took was a little bit of characterization.

I guess we'll see what happens!

If they ever did platinum box sets, that's when I would unload my sealed ones to pay for the box ones, since they'll be a lot more organized :)
