so, it seems we all have favorites groups or teams that we either purposely or subconsciously collect from various lines, whether its subgroups like dinobots or the autobot mini vehicles, or main groups from each faction or even the full casts. i just realized, for me, i have a clear preference for the G1 MTMTE original decepticons(megs, seeker trio, soundwave & cassettes, shockwave and reflector). i have all but 1 of them as my current masterpiece collection; i had fanstoys quakewave but sold it so i could get takara shockwave, feel like that was a mistake and i have still yet to actually get shockwave. i have all of them in the WFC/FOC line, save for reflector, though im trying to get my hands on the Botcon 2016 reflector set, which would fit absolutely flawlessly with it. now i am starting AGAIN with CW/TR; i have takara megatron, have starscream, i am saving up for skywarp and thunderscracker, and plan to pick up TR soundwave, rumble, frenzy and laserbeak when they come out. it is kinda cool that this main group of cons have somehow become the focus of my collecting. so, does anybody else have a focus or preference who they collect from certain lines?

 

I tend to seek out Dinobots and Insecticons whenever they are made in any given line.

For me it's definitely Seekers. I was happy when I finally got A G1 Thrust to at least have one set of the original six and even happier when I got Sunstorm to make a full seven. Heck around the time of Botcon 2013 was one of my happiest collecting periods as I had gotten my first teo Sunstorms not too long before (2003 ehobby and Universe), was lucky to have the welcoming party as an exclusive, got the MP at the show as well as Henkei Thundercracker, and got the 2008 Sunstorm like a week or two later. HasTak's MP's as of late are devouring my wallet just cuz I have a compulsive need for every version and don't want to miss out.
Combaticons are also a group I like collecting as they are one of my favorite Combiner teams. Seacons and Breast Force would be above that if they had more iterations (not counting TFC versions).
Also Ratchethide pairs are something I like to collect for whatever reason. I actually like the original toy myself (I find it fun if odd looking) so I have both the earlier TAkara reissues and the Encore set (Green Ratchet is a gaping hole as I have Protect Black Ironhide). The Botcon 2005 Ratchet's prohibitive price annoys me because my Botcon Ironhide needs his semi twin. Couldn't resist the nee Botcon Ratchet who can complement my CW Ironhide.

Wreckers are certainly a fun group to collect in part because of how varying the line ups are.
I've been interested in at least pulling off an Alligned continuity set of wreckers though I still need Bulkhead, Ironfist, and possibly G1 Rotorstorm (who's likeness is used for that incarnation).
Anyway I certainly like your displays. Interesting to see MP Hot Rodimus in there as well.

Before MP-28 I was using the Hasbro MP-09, but seeing as how he was Hot Rod & not Rodimus Prime during those stories (long after he gave the Matrix up) I felt MP-28 the more suitable use for this display

wreckers and dinobots are unintentional. mostly wreckers though (i bought scoop, seaspray, and several others before learning of the team's awesomeness)

i do have a problem with incomplete teams (got it from my brother) so i try to complete them....

 

Optimus would be the closest, probably. I have basically cut back to MP versions of everyone else, but still have several versions of Optimus. Now, my superhero collection, that's a different story. I've got HT, ML, and Lego avengers as well as DCUC and lego Justice Leagers.

 

Combaticons always find their way into my collection. The only variation of the G1 mold I'm missing is Battle Gaia. From FoC, I don't own the SDCC colors but have the retail and G2 versions. I also have the Hasbro CW version. Will probably pass on the UW version but will eventually get the G2 version and possibly UW Valdigus if that ever sees release.

New to collecting just last year, but I can say for sure I won't be buying different versions of characters I already own if it can be helped.

That said, I HAD to have the main 4 Scramble City Combiners so CW/UW was all it took to push me into TF collecting.
