I was driving home one day and saw a garage sale and it sparked some curiosity within me.

If you're looking for a figure that it no longer sold in stores do you try and find one that is still in its original packaging or are you willing to buy a used figure that other people have played with and handled?

For me, I always prefer a new figure. Of course if there is a used figure on eBay and it's complete and in good condition I'll buy it but something about getting a new figure still sealed in its packaging is satisfying for me.

Also does cost play into the equation. Would you like to buy a new figure but settle for a used version because it's cheaper?

I'd love to hear opinions about this.

For me, unless I'm going to keep it in the package to resell (which I seldom do, but have a few), I will always go used.
Mainly, it's cheaper. And as long as it's in good-great condition, I'm just going to transform it a few times and display it anyway. Just one less box for me to throw away!

I prefer used, as long as the figure isn't manhandled or disgustingly dirty. I don't like paying extra just for some cardboard I'm going to store in my closet.

If I can get it cheap, I buy MOSC/MISB. If not, I have no problem buying opened/used transformers. One of my favorite toys is Classics Voyager Megatron, that I bought used for like 15 dollars a year or so back.

I look for the best price I can find for figures that are complete. If they're in the package, so be it, but once I get it, it's coming out and the package is going in the trash. So it's better for me if it's used, as that saves the MISB/MOSC figures for people that want them to stay that way, but price is king.

I would prefer new, but because used prices are usually much more attractive I don't mind buying used.

I tend to go used since they're usually cheaper. As long as the figure isn't beat to hell I'm fine with it.

As long as the figure hasn't been man-handled or broken, I'd actually prefer used. Saves me the bother of dealing with packaging garbage, which I only keep for better figures or MP's.

I'm with you on all of this. Although I do prefer to stay on top of the current lines and get many of those figures new as they come out. If I'm looking for something 15 years old, I'll always prefer opened and complete, since I want to display and enjoy my figures. Price is always a significant factor, though.

I personally prefer to buy new if I can. I like being the first person to handle it, remove it from it's packaging, and transform it. However, I will go used if it's complete and in good condition, or if price prohibits a new version.

Admittedly, though, I sometimes feel a little guilty opening a MOSC/MISB toy that's many years old, if only because so few of them must exist sealed in their original packaging presently.

    I prefer new.

If it's a cheaper way of getting a figure and it's in really good condition then sometimes used.

if it's nice, if it's in great condition, if the price is good.

I'll go for used before anything else.
I'm actually looking for an MP-12 lambor. I will only go with new if I can't find a used one.

Used is fine. If I can save a few bucks by not getting the packaging that I will no doubt just throw away, all the better. Usually cheaper to ship a loose toy too so yeah, if that's an option, I will go that route.

But most of the things I buy new just because I'm getting stuff that's just come out and a loose one isn't available. And sometimes it feels silly to have a company put so much effort into getting me a nice mint package when I'm just gonna trash it.

Always new or sealed in box/card... I prefer to be the first to open/handle/damage my toy.

Used only when it's a figure I'm purposely going to cannibalize for parts.

If it's no longer available in store, used. But I'm very particular about having it used but complete with all packaging and paperwork. I'm slightly more forgiving of older stuff but box, bubble, mand insert is still a must for Hasbro G1. TT G1 I'm marginally more stringent.
Plus I as someone who keeps all the packaging I always appreciate when someone else put in a similar effort.

Don't mind buying used, but whenever possible it's new.
