I mentioned this in the News and Rumors discussion thread but as these things go, posts rapidly get lost in the shuffle.

The "loud pedal" is a gearhead term that goes back to the 60s (?) that refers to the long skinny pedal on the right hand side of the foot well that makes all kinds of cool noises when you press it to the floor of a hot rod. :D

The news story mentioned that this was referring to a piano's pedal...but that just doesn't seem to fit, IMO.

    Thoughts?

It does make more sense, plus it goes with Exhaust in being directly related to a car part.

    Good find!

    Right on...

I'm just psyched that someone at Taraka may actually know a thing or two about car culture. I just love this name.

This was a question? I thought it was obvoiously a refernce to revving thr engine loudly with the gas pedal.

I guess I know more about cars than I thought, working in the GM engineering team.

Oh yeah, actually I imagine they have a few people there into cars - they said part of their goals with the recent MP series was to make the figures appealing to both Transformers fans/toy collectors AND car enthusiasts, so that someone who might not exactly buy Transformers could still be tempted by a really good looking Lancia Stratos model or something.

Still, this is good info, thank you!

Oh! I thought this was in reference to Top Gear, where the boys would attach noise making devices (like the horn, or a squeaky toy) to the accelerator pedal?

    What?

I think the term "loud pedal" originates with a piano, but was then incorporated into car talk. For a piano, the loud pedal let's you sustain the sound--on a car, it sustains the speed (and sound).

But yeah, for this TF it seems the car context is what was in mind.

    Ok...I sent a note to C310 Ginrai...
Certainly not the biggest issue in any of our lives but someday, someone could be writing a Wiki about this and the meaning could be lost if we're not vigilant about the details. :)

This probably won't be the last time we see something like this, either. There are still a number of nameless Diaclone decos Takara will do for future releases, and we appear to have a pattern forming with the naming convention. Throw some more quasi-obscure car culture terms out there, you may get lucky and guess the name of red Sunstreaker, police Sunstreaker, black Ironhide, green Ratchet, red Mirage, blue Trailbreaker, yellow Trailbreaker, blue Hoist... who knows?
