are there any kind of storage bins/brands that could damage toys. I am getting them from home depot. Since they close tightly, should I drill holes in the bins to prevent possible acid/chemical buildup?

    -thanks

Don't worry about acid build up. The greater concern would be what condition it's being stored in. Preferably, room temperature, dark and dry.

The only times I had toys that broke because of the bins were where I put too many toys in at once and then some started to break each other. But that was a long time ago, and I tend to be more careful now.

I keep a lot of my excess figures in boxes, mostly the movie figures. I just keep them in vehicle mode. and it works just fine. however, this was just meant to be temporary, for me. as I am in the middle of rearranging things. long term, i am unsure if i would store things this way. however, i do have a box of marvel/dc, various other figures, it's just a shoe box. keeps everything just fine. they've all been in there for about 5 years now.

Why do you keep asking the same stupid questions over and over and over? What answer are you expecting that hasn't been said in the last five threads you opened about this exact thing?

Nah that won't work for me ,I have blood type AB that does not seem to counteract with the toxins themselves

I have been told that fecal matter somehow decomposes the toxins themselves ,may try that one day

I have never heard of the acid buildup that he's talking about, so this could be an informative topic for some collectors.

Perhaps you should try the ignore list. If you're not interested in contributing to the conversation, then why post?

Guilty of what? Asking questions? Starting threads? Why spend your time posting that you don't like the threads these collectors start? I'm sure there is far better use of your time.

Why does it matter what questions he's asking? It's not like you're responsible for responding to each question. Do you think being criticizing him for asking questions is going to make things better? A thousand "stupid" questions is so much more pleasant to read then one post that's only intent is criticizing someone for doing something that's perfectly in their right to do so.

FOR EVERYONE: If you think a post breaks the rules of TFW, contact a mod privately and let them handle it. Public shaming is not going to make any situation better.

    1) herculesbeetle, the one thing I will suggest is to find the most opaque bins that you can find. UV light can fade and accelerate yellowing of figures. The acid thing is likely only an issue where there is direct contact...I don't think that there are likely to be acidic vapors of any kind...but in any case, keeping them cool and dry will slow any chemical breakdown.

    2) Can someone point me to the section of the forum policy where we have to respond to threads that we feel aren't worthy of our time? I can totally see why these poor, poor forum members are so exhausted. :p

Obviously you are not familiar with his post history. He has asked this EXACT question many, many times, and has gotten answers. Yet he keeps asking. He'll ask again in a couple weeks. It's mind-numbing to see over and over. It's spam at this point, and it SHOULD be criticized.

Maybe in your opinion. If you don't like my responses, you don't have to read them - but at least they don't waste time.

Now, excuse me while I prepare to open 10 different threads asking what color Bumblebee is. Don't worry, I'll space them out so there's a new one every couple weeks. It totally won't be annoying spam, not at all.

What does it matter to you how often he asks a question? Don't like his threads, don't click them. There, simple solution.

All you're doing is making a fellow fan feel uncomfortable here at TFW2005. If he eventually stops posting because you and all the other people who keep ganging up on him give him the feeling that he's not welcome here, do you think to yourself, "There, he's finally gone. A job well done."?

Here are some articles that google brought up:

Storing Loose Action Figures In Bags | Action Figure Fury

One Per Case: PSA: How to Store Action Figures Like a Boss

Tips on Storing Your Toys From Go Figure Action Figures - DASH Action Figures

They state that the plastic in ziploc bags will deteriorate after some years, and the acid will damage the contained figures. They recommend using acid-free bags, like what museums use for storing pieces.

I have limited experience with this sort of thing, so I can neither confirm or say that it's over-exaggeration. People believe things like you shouldn't store plastic bottled drinks outside or in your car for an extended period of time. Or that styrofoam, cardboard, and the plastics used for toy packaging are made of acidic material, that will ruin the figure overtime. (must suck for MISB collectors)

Certain types of light bulbs are more damaging to the figures.

Ideally, you should air out figures in storage every couple months, to let out the gases. I'm a bit too lazy to do that. Also don't have air-conditioning, but luckily I live where it's cool. And I don't 'always' want to thoroughly wash my hands everytime I feel like wanting to pick up and touch one of my figures. (skin oils are damaging) They're for my enjoyment. And I while I do want to keep them in excellent condition, life is just too short.

Now, if I had in my possession something such as an Action Comics issue #1, or high grade vintage G1 toys, yes... I would wear gloves while handing them, and store them as safe as can be. But I don't have anything like that.

I try to keep my figures out of direct sunlight. Because that ruins everything. (except solar panels, I suppose)

It's possible you could wrap them in a brown paper bag or use kraft paper - both super cheap to buy. It could do two things - absorb any toxins emitted from the toy or other toys, and absorb the toxins emitted from the plastic container.

Also, you might consider throwing in some the gel silica packets to absorb anything else.
