Have the Classic Transformers killed the secondary market for AEC figures?

I´ve noticed that it´s really hard for me to sell my AEC figures, while my classics figures tat I put for sale have gone in an instance. Maybe it´s just me, but any of you guys has had trouble selling the figures from those lines?

In the forums or on ebay?
It can be cyclical; sometimes my stuff sells, other times it doesn't. But that's my experience on selling my Classics stuff.

The few AEC figures I had went fast. But that was also a few years ago. It might simply be a time / relevance issue. Are you trying to unload surplus to make room and fund new stuff? Running out of space is an issue we all might have.

I think with fandom's shift to MPs, it's having a trickle down effect. Everyone is jumping on the MP bandwagon to save space and is dumping everything else. Classics is the next step down for those who want articulated G1 without being as large, and everything else (AEC, RID2000, Alternators, etc) trails that popularity wise.

I've been able to re-purchase some Classics and AEC figures for near retail prices lately and they were 2x-4x this price the same time last year which I mostly attribute to the MP surge.

It just depends. Eventually, most of it will sell.

I've been looking at some MISB/MOSC classics/generations figures I missed out on and was surprised that they were close to retail. So It's not just AEC I believe.

Early classics and universe figures dont go for anywhere near what they used to. Energon And Cybertron are a hard sell.
    The Masterpiece revolution continues.

you're lucky if you can get 10 bucks for most Unicron Trilogy figures. when I was selling stuff on Ebay, I wouldn't even bother with most unicron trilogy figures. aside for a few.

I don't think so... AEC were mainline so their production numbers would have been stratospheric. Classics/Generations were more collector focused lines so I'm guessing were produced in lower numbers.

So I think that deflated aftermarket AEC prices are due more to numbers and perceived collectability, not because of Classics.

I'm going to be selling a few A/E/C toys at a local toy show this Saturday. I'll let you guys know how they sold. But I'm expecting a minimal amount of profit. I'll just be happy, in most cases, to get my money back...

Sounds like it will be cheap to start collecting Unicron Trilogy then.

I've noticed that I find AEC figures significantly cheaper at conventions (Transformers specific conventions) than online as well. Picked up a complete Cybertron Snarl for $7 at Botcon. Most people want $15-$20+ for it on eBay.

    Overall? Probably.

For me? Nope! My AEC shelves stand proud across from the CHUG and MP shelves :D

Along with my G1, G2, RiD, Alts, TFA, Prime+BH+NuRiD, and 4 movies shelves... Only NA lines I don't have much of are BW/BM. I've even got small PCC, Titanium, and Constructbot shelves.

.... I may have an addiction.

Anything that isn't G1, CHUG, or MP generally doesn't sell for much from what I've seen.

AEC?....wouldn't it be better to call them U3 for Unicron trilogy. Just a thought.

I'm re-doing all my shelves and I think a lot of the AEC stuff is still pretty neat....but by this time there is just a lot of TF's....but I bet there are kids who grew up in that time frame who still enjoy them...I grew up in g1, but still think they are cool. At least we didn't get the same g1 characters over and over during that era.....

I was a Unicron Trilogy kid (Mostly Armada, but with a few Energon toys despite my dislike of the show). I've mostly been collecting Generations and the newest movie and TV stuff (With my girlfriend collecting MP). I'm not particularly interested in the original toys because I'm waiting for more Generations updates. I'm still missing Hot Shot actually (Do have Dion, though, so I know I actually like the mold).

I have considered collecting Cybertron figures, and I should note that some of these Unicron Trilogy figures DO go for quite a bit. I've only just got into collecting proper over the last couple of years, so I've mostly only been exposed to current prices, but Armada Nemesis Prime seems to go for a good bit (I ended up setting for a slightly incomplete one in a lot) and Energon Galvatron WAS going for over $100 (Got one for $60 at BotCon 2015). I'm sure the latter has started to drop due to Titans Return, but there are a few valuable figures. Primus and Unicron (Just remembered that I paid a decent sum for these two as well), Cybertron Leader Optimus, and probably some others seem really popular.

Speaking for myself, it was the cartoon that killed this series for me. It just didn't feel like it had any heart and all the characters sounded like they were talking into trash cans. I bought several figures at the time because it was the only thing out and I was really trying to give it a try. Even if Classics/Universe/Generations had never come along, I still wouldn't be buying these on the secondary market. The only figures from this era I like have no connection to the cartoon series: Ultra Magnus (deluxe Armada Prime repaint), deluxe Unicron, Excellion, Downshift (Cybertron version), Longrack, Leo Prime (Lio Convoy colors), and a few others.

I sold a bunch of Unicron trilogy figures at a toy convention a few months back for about $8-$10 each. I didn't make profit but I was glad to clear up some space and get some money back for them. Also was able to unload a bunch of Alternators, Heroes of Cybertron, and other stuff that doesn't move on ebay. When the buyer can inspect the figure in person, doesn't have to pay extra for shipping, and can walk away from your table with figure in hand, it makes a big difference. Just don't expect to make bank on them. Good luck.

To be frank, most of the figs that were fetching any money from AEC were the CHUG stand in figs, and those are the ones that are now bottoming out worse because they are all coming on the market at the same time. Cybertron Landmine? Most CHUG collectors were picking him up as a Scoop stand in. Suddenly Scoop comes out and the market bottoms out on Landmine. Remember that Movieverse Hoist that came with Mixmaster or Long Haul or whatever? Worthless on the secondary market now. Any figs that had legitimate draw have gotten redone themselves as well. Armada Starscream? Yup. I don't think you're going to get anything for those in the aftermarket. You're better off pitching it as a lot and take what you can get.
