This. We're nearly ready for the TR toys to drop. This is just stores clearing out the stock that's lingered. And yet figures like Air Raid and Breakdown are still commanding higher than normal prices…
Yup. Plus these are later wave figures. CW was probably the best moving classics line at my Wal Mart until the Optimus Maximus wave, and even then it's only Optimus and Motormaster that actually stick along with the Legends. No Sky Reign or Bruticus parts, however. Goddammit.
Hasbro's data says CW sold great - that's how the growth in "sales to older fans" is tracked, as CW is the line targeted partially at us that saw big growth. Sale prices from a manufacturer at the end of a line & in a slow time of year for toy sales does not mean CW failed to sell.
Where I am, everything sold really fast except the Autobot car limbs, but everybody suspected that. Granted, I didn't really notice any restocking either, but none of the Aerialbots, Stunticons, Protectobots, or Combaticons stayed on the shelf for long. They never seemed to reach "saturation" at all.
Oh ok, I just bought Onslaught and Sky Lynx for CAD $20/each before tax... that's like $16-$17 USD....
During a trip last week to my TRU I also noticed the deluxe limbs went up to $22.99...I can drive 5 minutes down the street to Walmart and grab them for $14.97. It's not a Hasbro thing, it's a TRU thing. They do it with much of what they sell. With a 7 year old I'm buying lot's of toy from lots of different lines so I see it, and try to avoid buying from TRU unless it's an exclusive item. I will say TF's seem to be marked up higher than anything else, and despite that they do sell eventually, probably to the uniformed, probably a parent and not a collector who knows they are getting taken. CW has sold pretty well around here, the exceptions are many of the Legends from last year, Hot Rod, Groove and Blackjack, they are everywhere is huge quantities. The wave 4 Autobot cars...both Targets near me are loaded with 2 or 3 sets each, and none have sold weeks, either that or they just keep putting more out. Sadly, wave 6 which I actually like seems to be selling slowly too. I see a direct connection between characters who were never combiners and slow sales.
I'm hopeing bye payday vortex and take off are still at my was mart. Also just saw for the first time moter master and battle core optimus there
Here in the US, Combiner Wars actually went up in price. If not for the combiner/completionist gimmick, I would have bought less figures than I did because of the price.
