Just remember these words from emgo316:

"You don't stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing!"

    Wise words

I buy toys I have a lesser urge to own from stores (because if I find them, I'll buy 'em, and if not...) and the ones I truly desire offline.

Online. Out of necessity, not embarrassment.

I buy them online but not out of fear of being seen buying them...I used to feel that way but I've been over it for a long time now. I buy online because it's just easier. Sure I pay shipping but even with that it's cheaper than spending gas driving around everywhere to try to find what I want.

Online but... lol. It has nothing to do with fearing being seen. :p  We simply have no Toys R Us, Walmart, Target, or any other store really in this town that carries Transformers. And we don't own a car so... mass transit it is. Hence... online only.

Plus I just like the convenience of it coming directly to my home.

Actually, the funny thing is, when I was about 8, 9, and 10, I felt awkward buying toys because I thought people would think I was too old for them.

    Huh.

I have bought a variety of figures from different places. I have never had anyone give a sideways glance. But, I primarily buy online at this point since I very rarely buy any of the new Hasbro releases and usually go the TT route for most figures.

What stores do you go to where everyone cares what you're buying?

I buy at any store if they have something I want. Otherwise I buy online. I've never gotten weird looks or any sort of comments about me buying toys.

Well because I only buy Takara MP's , it's been mostly online for me. On the other hand , I'd have 0 fucks given for walking into a retail store , and buying a figure if I so desired .

For what stores I DID go to where people care, uh, my co-workers... no more department stores.
Now I know WHY there's certain things you can't let people in the workforce witness; why your personal life has to be kept SEPARATE from professional life.

I've heard tales of employees getting fired from their jobs because of collecting toys... their co-workers, that disapprove of toys, but would be in that same store (obviously a large department store like Wal-Mart purchasing things from other departments, and only running into each other by coincidence), witness the toy buying employee, and bring it up to the supervisor next day at work.
Supervisor lets toy buying employee go with the reason of, "If you're an adult buying toys, then you have the mind of a child, and that tells me you WON'T take the job seriously." In a right-to-work state, that's not illegal.

Let go employee can obviously collect unemployment because buying toys is not an act of misconduct, but that's not as much as regular wages.

Again, I've only HEARD these tales (I don't know anyone personally,) but in this economy, where everyone is fighting for a job, this doesn't surprise me.

I would not be surprised then as I'm sure any place will find some reason to not employ people and leading to people like me never getting employed for dumbass reasons. I'm sure those kinds of stories could be true and actually happened to some poor schmuck.

I had to have Tim Formas change my username on here (oldest timers may remember my original) simply because there are co-workers I don't want knowing I'm here.
That's when I changed my avatar and banner.

Sad, but it happens. Kissing arse to a boss would happen no matter what the economy is.

I buy them from wherever I can find them pretty much. TRU, Walmart, eBay, the Junkion Exchange, doesn't matter. :)

Online mostly, since most things I buy are MPs or 3rd party. I would rather buy at a store so I don't have to worry about my wife getting the package. I wished I lived by A3U so I can go there for my collecting needs. Just out of curiosity, for those living in Arizona, Nevada or Wisconsin is there a local store for TCP, TFS or BBTS next to the warehouse?

If I find it in a store I'll buy it, but I usually almost always get them off ebay for a decent price. If not there then somewhere else online. The reason I picked ebay though also includes that I get plenty of older figures as well and thats the only place to get them!

Holy sweet Christmas that is messed up. Sounds like you need a union down there bad. If someone tried to fire me cause of what I spend my money on, I'd laugh in their face. Don't you guys have some kind of government labour board down there you could report your employer to?

That is a shitty state of affairs right there. A fucking personal hobby can get you fired from your job when the hobby has nothing to do with your job and doesn't remotely affect anyone you work with? Hell, I just told my co-worker yesterday that I was going to buy a figure while I was on lunch. They didn't seem to care one way or the other and I bought my goddamn CW Onslaught and opened him up in my car while I was eating lunch. And you know what? He's a delightful toy. :)

If your example was what happened to you, I'm sorry to hear about that. No one should be able to be fired over a personal hobby if it doesn't affect how you perform your job.
