I think the best answer would be to make both Giga and Mega able to form the head. One should be Masterforce, the other should have GLORIOUS POUTY LIPS

 

In Japan? Yes, it's quite possible.

Note that Takara usually are the ones doing media-accurate, while Hasbro goes toy accurate.

But the shtick with Takara is that they go almost only Japanese-media-accurate, unless the character in question has no previous media presence in Japan. Hence their Computron has red Afterburner because this is more accurate to his animation model sheet and how he was in Headmasters, even if S3 US episode has us on West remembering him more orange, BUT Windblade and Origins Drift are IDW-colored because there's no Japanese media for these characters save for toy pack-ins.

I'm quite serious when I believe that Takara is very likely to do Masterforce, while Hasbro maybe could do IDW, but they're as likely to go either toy-accurate or generic humanoid robot face.
The level of fine sculpt required to give Overlord dem lips on a fairly normal face is not something I expect from a general market release, more from a 3P upgrade kit. Can't really think about any distinct humanoid TF face from Generations onward save for Kup, Arcee and Windblade - and they're more specific than that.

 

Given that all TR Leader figures thus far have helmets that go over the heads, it seems like a no brainer to do it where the heads are just interchangeable faces.

 

Personally got no preference on the face...I'll focus my energy on getting Hasbro to design him in a way where the tank and jet combine using CW ports so I can mix and match the limbs w/ CW deluxe figures.

 

I'd be fine with Masterforce Cartoon, IDW or toy. IDW is the best version of the character but I can see how some people would be put off by the lips. I think a combination of some sort, maybe toning down the lips a tiny bit but maintaining the arrogant smirk would be a decent compromise for everyone.

 

Double headmasters, each with their own face, robot helmet that fits them both (like Galvatron and Blaster), and storage in the chest for the unused one. Everyone wins.

 

I like the IDW lips fine in artwork, but I don't think it would translate very well in a toy. I like either the box art or the Masterforce look.

 

IDW, or a mixture of G1 and IDW. Both would be nice, to satisfy both camps.



I felt this image is a pretty nice fusion of his IDW appearance and G1 look, maybe leaning more towards G1 but It still looks really good.

I want IDW, but I kind of doubt it. Titanmasters so far have been pretty G1 evocative (Chromedome's head notwithstanding). Ideally it would be the two heads, because A) he has two Titan Masters, B) There's already a prevalent rumor that eventually every character will have twobhead options, and C) a leader class price point would be a good place to have both heads in one box.

Overlord definitely needs to be Voyager or Leader for the sick helmet action. I'm hoping for Voyager just because Leader us too big for its budget anymore.

 

Masterforce. the pouty lips are just comic stylization.

this goes back to why i hated the animated line so much: i would have been completely fine with the stylized cartoon, because it's a different medium, but making the figures absurdly stylized to match just killed me.

 

That is actually the perfect solution.

 

The animated line was the high water mark for transformers IMO.

 

Had it not been for LSotW, I doubt we'd ever be getting an Overlord. Don't recall him being a popular enough character to warrant possibly a leader class figure prior to Roche

 

So an overlord figure might happen? Was this said at botcon?

 

I want the face to match the toy. There's more different between IDW and Masterforce Overlord than just the lips. So, if the body is G1 looking, I want a G1 head, and if it's IDW looking, and IDW head.

All the same, they are not night and day levels of different, I feel like a sculpt that blends the two is possible. I'd personally rather they go all-in for one direction or the other.



Although, I am not against Thundershot's idea of including both. That way you get your "proper" head, and the other is a nice bonus.

I think, given the fact that the only actual difference between an IDW or G1 Overlord is the head design, that having him come with both Giga and Mega Titanmasters, each with a different face on them, would be a great way for people to get their preferred Overlord.

 

so making the toys look like the show was a bad choice?

anyway i think the lsotw specifically is just artist decision. as long as it's a good face i don't care what it emulates
