I did a search for topics on best base mode discussions and came up with nil, so here I am creating my very first thread topic. So! In your humble opinions, which TF's have the very best base / city / fortress modes? I know base modes can often be hokey and feel tacked on at times, but I've always been a sucker for them. I remember even enjoying the G1 combiner base modes, using Onslaught as a gun platform for the micromasters, targetmasters, headmasters, etc. My honorable mentions and personal favs go to G1 & Generations Metroplex, Trypticon, G1 & FP enhanced Onslaught, Powermaster OP, Rocket Base, and the 2 Beast War mini bases, just off the top of my head. So what's yours??
I find that the best bases are the ones that have lots of platforms and spots to stand figures around. Then I just let my imagination works it's magic as to what those TF's are actually doing. Personally I found G1 Metroplex to be one of the best bases, even if his size only makes him good for Minibots. All of his platforms, ramps/bays make good spots to populate and look 'busy'. Having said that combining as many similarly themed bases as possible works wonders as well. There's a thread on bases already I'm afraid. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...6-all-your-base-belong-us.html?highlight=base
Count down had a very good base mode but then he didn't have a robot mode, a lot of the Micromaster bases were really impressive.
Absolutely loved Omega Supreme as a kid, and still do. Once I have more display room, I may nut up for a second one just to have in base mode. Had a lot of good times playing with that thing growing up.
Good points made above.... Personally, I have always loved G1 Trypticon's ziggurat-esque base mode. Along with the colors and all around neat looking fortress there are some neat features He's probably my pick.
By those standards, Countdown's rocket base is the best; it's easy to make it look busy, but best of all, you can do so with everyone in their robot modes.
I liked making my own bases as a kid with random stuff and pillows. I remember using an empty gallon jug of water as part of my base when I was younger. nothing beats a child's imagination
Most of the G1 base guys are pretty decent since they're bricks that turn into bricks that shift around into a brick with a different shape lol. Trypticon is probably my favorite, based solely on looks. Scorponok and Overlord look cool too. So I guess I prefer the bad guy bases!
Sploosh I do love a good base me. At one point I had Fort Max, Titan Metroplex, Countdown and PM Prime all huddled together on my desk in a make shift robo-village, but not as accomplished looking as yours. The Maketoys Metroplex looks great in city mode. Micromasters are great for base modes, they help to make everything look suitably huge. Best autobot base mode is probably Fort Max in my opionion (the brave max version if you want to get picky) and for Decepticons I love Trypticon and the micromaster Anti-Aircraft base. I would love to see the Titan Wars bases able to connect similar to the micromaster bases.
Is this a sly dig at me using Micro Machines to make everything look bigger? I usually use WST's in conjunction with Micro Machines but I didn't in that picture. In any case I have a Countdown I picked up last August that needs to be integrated into my Autobot city as a spaceport... which will be populated by Micro Machine X-wings...
More like a sly dig at you calling Metroplex's city mode the best when the scale issue becomes even harder to ignore with robot modes. Even Trypticon is better in that regard.
The only Transformer with a base mode I have is Titan Class Metroplex, and I like his mobile mode more.
my favorite is actually Black Convoy/Laser Prime's. The reason, it is scaled in such a way, you can have Basics/Scouts/Legends meaningfully man the weapons stations, so it actually has a too-scale "bunker" feel. Plus, all the gimmicks are just sweet and work well. Unfortunately, most base or city bots just feel way too small ~ even with Titan Metroplex, Legends feel a bit oversized. I did have my Brave Max covered with WSTs, that worked pretty well
