I think its a tricky thing to say that Windblade is a Mary Sue because right off the bat, she was going to be a new character with a significant role in the current TF storyline. So... any character introduced in that manner is going to be artificially significant but so what?

Having said that, she seems like a likable character that is not burdened by the role she is meant to play. She's important but it doesn't hurt her (IMO) as a character.

I think if everything remained the same, except the gender was male, I would feel the same about Windblade.

Back to Victorion. She's growing on me. Even the color scheme is growing on me but the final piece needs to have really polished paint apps to really work. I like these "retcon" G1 combiners (Victorion, Galvatronus). I don't care much for Optimus Maximus, Sky Reign or Betatron because they use characters that were never combiners in G1 though. If Sky Reign used Sky Lynx as the leader but had original characters (even if they were repaints) as limbs, I would be much happier. That's just my feeling on that.

Well, this does prove a problem, since there's only two spare limbs for Galvatronus to use based on T-Hybrid's system.

But, Galvatronus is Cyclonus, who wasn't a combiner.

I think you misunderstood what I mean't. Drift was criticized as being a Mary Sue because he was a completely non-self-aware Mary-Sue stereotype. Literally the only thing stereotypically "Mary-Sue" about Windblade is that she's a new main character and that she's female. What I'm saying is that it's not the same scenario.

I'm trying to think of a similar situation with what's going on with Windblade's criticisms except with a male counterpart but I can't recall a male character being introduced and given similar fanfare as Windblade other than Drift.

 

I'd hate it if Victorion was male. I much prefer twins to be girls.

This. Holy crap those colors are so horrible. But I think it's the molds used. Pyra isn't different enough from Hot Spot IMHO(and this is coming from someone who has both CW Motormaster and UW Nemesis Prime)

As for the characters being female but the molds being male, it is indeed an ongoing problem. But hopefully, Victorion and all of the Torchbearers will get their own molds someday, and the molds combined with the odd choice for paint will actually play off of each other's strengths.

Would I like them if they were male to begin with though? Probably not. I can't see why it would matter in the least.

 

I think we would like it more in general if (and or all of the following)...

1. The colors were not so ugly.
2. If it had done ANYTHING to make it look more like a female figure (I think if they displayed the combiner with helicopter arms, even that would help! muscle arms and skinny legs look too male bodybuilder!)
3. If any or all of the characters had any individual personality or history with the fandom. I mean make the Torso Elita One, the cars Firestar and Moonracer and the helicopters Greenlight and Lancer! People would be lining up to buy her!)

I make a toy comic on this forum and I have some toys renamed for the purpose of the comic (Arms Micron Darkness Megatron is Megatronus aka the Fallen, Cryofire Predaking is Cryotek, Prime Dark Energon Starscream is Skywarp, etc.) And I actually still think of them as those characters when looking at them on the shelf

 

Well, some of them have extremely feminine looking heads. So, that won't quite work for Docseth, I imagine.
