In another thread I had mentioned my desire for a Shattered Glass colored Masterpiece Soundwave or anything else that will get that mold back at 180 and it got me thinking, why haven't there been any of those yet? Sure the Shattered Glass characers didn't have G1 bodies, but the MP line loves repaints, and have gone way more obscure than that.

The SG Soundwave VS Blaster was an ehobby set and released in Japan, they're not entirely ignorant to SG. I doubt their FunPub origins would actually discourage them to release them beyond the "may not be as popular" factor and it's not like FunPub has any actual claim to the characters (hell, Soundwave himself was originally a repurpose of the Takara Music Label Soundwave).

 

I would like SG MPs. But instead we have to settle for customising our own figures if we want the SG look.

SG IS a thing in Japan in that they got the Soundwave VS Blaster set and I believe the crossover Botcon crossover set as ehobby exclusives. As I said, they're not ignorant of it.

 

you have no idea. Everytime I go to Japan and go to the secondary market toy stores I always see Shadow Scythe, botcon 2008/2012 sets, and the Blaster/Soundwave to pack just collecting dust and price dropping.

 

DX9 is making SG Rodimus Prime. A KO maker made SG MP10 Optimus. KFC made a SG Ramhorn and Squawkbox. So there are some unofficial toys for the collection.

It would be nice if Fun Pub released the MP Soundwave & cassettes in SG colors, but I don't think Fun Pub has released any MP molds yet have they?

Also, you don't need Takara to make SG toys to get SG toys from them. They can just release MP Soundwave in "Spark White Music Label" Soundwave colors, and then repurpose that as SG Soundwave. Recolor MP Ravage as MP Glit to get MP SG Ravage. Release Mp Thundercracker in Action master colors to get MP SG Thundercracker, etc.

 

I love Shattered Glass, I hate Masterpiece.

It will take A LOT of convincing to get me on board for Shattered Glass MPs.

 

I don't even know what this "Shattered Glass" TF is. I Googled it and checked out the images, and it showed a bunch of card backings with stats... or something.

All the SG repaints look like ass . Probably the most disgusting display of colors you could possibly put together on one figure. Glad there not included in the MP's.

Of course not. A great many don't, but plenty of people do. I like Shattered Glass as well. It's your opinion, you've got every right to feel that way.

This franchise is so wide-reaching and has so many permutations that there's room for lots of opinions in it. I think most people on this board like some part of the franchise while disliking another part.

It's probably one of the reasons that our franchise is still around after 30 years, while other 80's lines have fallen by the wayside.  

As for why there have been no SG MP's, as other posters have said, SG is almost entirely a FunPub thing. Only in a few cases (Animated's cancelled Season 4, the E-Hobby Soundwave/Blaster set, etc.) has it ever trickled out into other parts of the line. At this point it's probably just not popular enough to warrant an MP repaint.

Additionally, outside of a few strange "special edition" versions (Eva Prime, BAPE Prime, etc.) the Japanese MP line is pretty conscientious about only doing repaints if the repainted character has actually shared that mold before. It's not as fast and loose with mold re-appropriation as Classics is. That's why we get Diaclone/Microchange repaints instead of, say, Tracks and Wheeljack sharing a body or Bumblebee and Cliffjumper sharing a body.

Although, because of that, I wouldn't count out a white repaint of MP Soundwave someday. The E-Hobby set might be juuuust enough precedent if they ever wanted to squeeze out another repaint of that mold.

 

This. You can't really be high and mighty and judgemental about what another person likes if you a fan of a franchise that has KISS Players in it.
