I was just thinking that I've been relatively content with my collecting since acquiring many of the major G1 MP characters. Between Third party releases and 20+ MP figures, there just don't seem to be that many new releases that catch my eye anymore. I'm excited for MP11 Thundercracker and still seeking a MP11 Skywarp (elusive!), but, uhh, I've got most of the other cons I want... As much as I like some the obscure characters, how many people are going to invest in an MP Skids? Even if a company surpasses Apollyon, I don't see myself replacing Apollyon with another figure for another $150. In five years from now, are we going to be on the Beast Wars MP band wagon, collecting super masterpiece figures, or paying off a small loan to acquire a 6-foot tall transforming Unicron? If you're a third party company, the nostalgia pipeline is going to dry up at some point within 5 years.
I'd happily buy MP Skids and any other season 1/2 (84/85) cast member. The well is deep. Depending on how nicely MP Primal updates the BW asthetic, I also say bring on the beasts.
Yep,km personally sick of sunbow g1 and im looking forward transformmission take on stunticons as fresh air as a MP cómic interpretation
If were just talking about third party masterpieces. There are companies going with a non sunbow model look. Like maketoys, DX9 or mastermind creations entry sphinx. (studio ox manga style) Obviously everyone trying to fill the gap in masterpiece before takara tomy can do their take is going to alienate collectors who want out of masterpiece or it never had a appeal for them. I certainly try to support the original concepts like steel core or BMOG when they pop up. Its just the loud fiscal voice of the market is for masterpiece. and for masterpiece fans it may feel like your cup overflows with more product than you can afford. Though as flint dille put it at tfcon. A lot of fan favorite characters aren't optimus prime or megatron. Their the little shut up rack toys. like the minibots or cassettes. That fans had as a kid. And a lot of those bots are obscure beyond the the scope of the show. So yeah obscure g1 characters like headmaster juniors or sparkabots will have a masterpiece market, both for the collectors that must have everything. And the nostalgist in which that obscure toy is their personal history in the brand. So masterpiece unicron actually is in my opinion not going to be as high on fan priority as triggerbot dogfight or pretender submarauder.
Well, if you're content with the figures you have and don't want any more, what comes after MP is... nothing. You're done. But perhaps something else will come along that will catch your eye, in which case... you're not done, and that's what comes after MP.
There's so many G1 characters (through Victory) that the MP market will dry up before they run out. I mean at some point we'll all stop buying...right guys?
Given the Beast Era, the true RID, and the Unicron Trilogy is about to hit the 20 mark in the near future, perhaps that. That's a lot of fans that would have jobs and be in the late 20's to mid 30's range. While officials or not, the G1 MP cast is growing every year. Eventually the fans of the series are going to have their ideal figures of the characters. Especially if one is a fan of season one and two only.
That's a very subjective question. What comes after MPs from the toyline point of view is anyone's guess, as the MP line is going stronger than ever right now and shows no signs of ending yet. From the perspective of the collector, that's entirely up to each person.
We've barely scratched the surface with how deep the MP line could potentially go. Maybe when we are debating on which MP Alpha Bravo to get it's time to move on.
Five years from now there will be new S1-S3 characters. We already have two MP versions of Seekers, Optimus Prime, Rodimus and (in a way, Magnus). In 5 years, HasTak will probably "upgrade" the existing MPs, and it'll be up to you whether to get them or not. When MP-10 came out, a lot of people passed him over because they already had MP-1, but a few years later, they've bought MP-10 anyway.
Well we're getting Beast Wars Primal this year(?) so I'm sure if that does well we'll see a Beast Wars line in the Masterpieces
No one has even touched MP combiners or City Bots. So still lots more available. But based on the current pricing of things, maybe that is impossible.
When G1 is done, so am I. I only watched the cartoon one year past the movie, so I'm not familiar with any of the characters. I never liked nor cared for the Headmasters and Targetmasters concept.
I think TT has committed to lower quality to keep the line profitable. So it's going to keep going for a while. If sales slow, the quality will just keep dropping. IMO
I'm very much contemplating my exit from the MP market. The only reason I spend my money is because of something deep within my brain labeled as nostalgia. Since I am of a certain age where I can afford to buy Nostalgia, I am only buying what was inspiring in the 1984-86 range, but 85 is the threshold for me with some exceptions. So when the original Ark Crew is complete, I have a hard time seeing a masterpiece Powermaster. If I was Takara, I would hold out on Cliffjumper and Jazz and sprinkle in some series 2 carbots like Warpath
