Devastator. Superion isn't that fun to play with because his limbs all transform the same way with minor differences. Plus it's 5 figures vs 6. So if they're the same price Devastator is a better value. My ultimate choice would be UW Superion now and UW Devastator later, but if that isn't an option and you're only ever going to get one it may as well be Devastator.
I think most would say Devastator but since the UW Superion is on sale these days for cheap I would say Superion. Out of all the CW/UW combiners Superion probably is one of the best (if not the best) right out of the box.
I'm biased because Devy is my favorite character... despite this I am wary of going any where near the hollow mess that is his new incarnation. Improved molding or not it's still wafer thin in parts with disjointed arms on most of the individual bots and poor Long fatty McFatterson Haul.... what a mess. I'm gonna have to vote Superion. He's extremely stable (especially with addon feet and hands) and the individual bots themselves don't look like garbage. He's just as hollow as Devy but you don't have to see most of those hollow parts and that goes a long way.
Both sets rock, you cant go wrong. Personally i would go devy cause its frigging awesome despite the hate for the "hollow" its a beast!
If you go Devastator, just make sure you don't break that little tab on Scrapper's scoop. That's all it'll take to render him trash.
Polls are available when making a new thread but... At this point in your thread, since I think it's too late. I believe you can ask a mod to put it up for you in the tech support section. Ultimately though, it's really up to you. Superion is much older. Playing catch up will be hard. Devastator is very popular AND way more expensive. Last I checked, there are about 40 Devies at Costco and will probably get a huge discount during or after the holidays. I'd play it like that if I was in your situation. Superion first then Devastator later.
Superion is the best 'standard' combiner wars team. Tops Menasor, Defensor etc in my opinion. Sure the limbs are very similar but it just works nicely. CW Devastator suffers a bit through cutting corners on individual bots BUT the combined Devastator is superb.
Just in case you wanted to know. This is the lowest price I found for the UW Superion online. I know the store and he's an owner from Milwaukee. A very trusted guy in the Wisconsin toy collector arena. It is for the Cyber Monday sale so I have no idea how long the price is good for. Unite Warriors UW-01 Superion Boxset
Personally, I think it depends on the rest of your collection and the space you'll be displaying him in. UW Superion will go nice with the smaller figures.. (Just look at Hitokiri's sig ^ and you'll see the combined form is only slightly taller than CW Megatron) ..CW Devastator is twice as tall and goes better paired with Megatron (or MP's). If you plan to keep him un-combined, the choice is really up to you.
That's a tough call for sure. As many have said, Superion is arguably the best all around combiner released so far, but Devastator is definitely something special in it's own right. Flawed for sure, but still a joy to mess with and put together. If you were going between Hasbro's Superion versus Devastator, I'd say go Devastator first for sure as the Aerialbots will be relatively easy to come by in the secondary market, but the Takara factor throws a wrench into that. That one may be harder to come by as time goes on.
Devastator. My Superion just stands there and was never transformed after I got him together, but I fiddle and play with Devastator every single day. Only in Canada. Aside from the Black Friday sales last week, CW Devy is getting hard to find at a decent price in the US.
