I'M NOT HERE TO WHINE, MOAN, OR COMPLAIN!
I'm asking why everyone else is.

Seriously, it feels like every time a new toy that's meant to represent good old g1 Ironhide in whatever way comes out all I see is wave after wave of complaints. Universe, Combiner Wars, and the Masterpiece figure are ridiculed to death and I just don't get why that is. Not that each one is without flaws, but it seems to me like anything that doesn't do Ironhide 100% justice is borderline intolerable! Why is that? And why Ironhide? Why is he the one singled out for this endless ridicule?:inquisiti

But...I like CW Ironhide. I hope we get a CW Ratchet to go with him.

I personally never saw the problem with Universe 2.0 Ironhide.

I mean, yeah, the design flaw of the collar plate not being able to come up without physically modifying one part is kind of a stupid thing since it's just below the edge of the hole it comes up from, and the alt. mode is panel-seperated lines galore, but it's the most accurate robot mode of the guy to date all the same because he has the window chest like he should. Oh, yeah, and the blue face was a weird problem (namely why he had a blue face was never really explained) but a silver sharpie would easily fix that problem if anybody was absolutely livid about it.

I think it's because his design is hard to crack, something is gonna suffer. Either alt mode or robot mode. Plus this is the transformers fandom no one is gonna be happy even if there is a "perfect" figure.

It's because we're a picky bunch :lol . Get 10 of us together and I'm sure we could come up with 10 different things to complain about on the same figure.

CW Ironhide is exactly what I imagine Ironhide looking like. He is the best Ironhide ever released.
Too bad the MP Ironhide sucks.

CW Ironhide + TFP Kup cannons + nonnef chest upgrade + painted hands = Good enough, I'd say.

to me, Ironhide is a van, or i'll accept an SUV. To me he isn't a pick up truck, hence not liking CW Ironhide

CW Ironhide is mediocre and doesn't actually resemble the character enough. I don't mind MP Ironhide but I understand the face and hip kibble complaints. I think it's just that every toy happens to have something a good number of people dislike.

But then you'd also have to work to fix his sad head, blue face, and then wouldn't be able to do anything at all about the fact his vehicle mode looks like it's been blasted by Galvatron.

Neither CHUG nor CW is desireable I confess, but CW Ironhide can at least be fixed.

i'm very confused, why do people hate on MP Ironhide? from what i've seen, he looks like he stepped right out of the cartoon, minus some necessities of real world physics required for him to be able to transform. It's not like he's the new Hot Rod.

also, i dig CW Ironhide for what he is, he's the only repurpose i'm really feeling from the 8 84/85 cars they are doing. Mirage is ok too, but after seeing him in person i wasn't really impressed with his colors.

But Classics/Univers Iron Hide, that figure was bad. an overly ambitious idea poorly executed: the vehicle mode looks like jigsaw puzzle, the engineering left him naval-gazing, the transformation was terribly fiddly, and the paint on the Hasbro version was pretty bad ~ WTH were they thinking with the blue face??? (the Takara version was nice)

Yeah, not sure. G1 Ironhide (and by extension G1 Ratchet) always seem to pull the short straw when it comes to action figures. Mind you, I actually really LIKE the G1 figures, but that's based on a significant amount of nostalgia, and I can understand why people find them less than satisfactory.

MP Ironhide doesn't look terrible, but it does have some deviations from the design that are surprising for the MP line (just belly bumper and hip kibble for me... both of which seem like they'd be solvable with a little more work).

The one that really puzzles me is Classics Ironhide/Ratchet. I feel like they were going for something innovative with it, and the idea just kinda fell apart midway somehow.

I really don't think they're a hard design to crack. They essentially have the same overall transformation as any other carbot: back of the vehicle into thir legs, front of the vehicle into the chest, head pops up, boom. The only issue is figuring out what to do with the bulk of their van-cabin, but there are good solutions for that: big backpack, larger legs, battle sled. All fine options.

I chalk it up mostly to bad luck. They just haven't had the right designer at the right time take a proper stab at them.

That being said, they fare fine in other continuities. The Animated, Movie, and Prime lines all have very nice Ironhide and Ratchet figures. Even AEC has nice ones, if you count the Botcon repaints of Energon Towline. It's just the G1 versions that can't catch a break. At this point I'm thinking the only logical explanation is that they came under some sort of gypsy's curse back in 1984, and have yet to break it.

G1 Ironhide doesnt have a head. Or much of anything else.
CHUG Ironhide looks like he has a beer belly and I don't like to be reminded of my physical shortcomings.
CW Ironhide looks like Offroad dressed up as Ironhide for Halloween.
MP Ironhide lacks so much detail, especially with those legs. I still don't know how well he'll look on my shelf.
TFC Ironhide should had been in voyager scale. Too much greeble.
Voodoo Ironhide... I dunno... likes Van Hagar. Eff that jazz.

Other than the headless G1 version, all Ironhides look more or less alike to me. I guess that makes me an Ironhide racist.

I'd be totally down with a G1/Classics Ratchet that followed Prime Ratchets basic concept. that was one of the best designs from that show IMHO.

My dream Ratchet, that i think would solve a lot of the problems, would be a Voyager scale, box-style Ambulance ( http://www.4pab.com/resources/ambulance.jpg ) where the front cab portion could remove and be the roughly deluxe-sized robot (removing the problems of the excess vehicle bulk and allowing you to cheat the arms some) and then the back box area would open up ala G1 Prime's trailer to be a repair bay with some articulated arms and scanners and a 'bed'.
