I collect many things but not transformers. While shopping at my local goodwill I come across a toy that looked cool. Hey, 3 bucks, kinda cool. This is what I find. Now my question to you experts is What do I with it? I sell things on Ebay but there has not been a 100 percent complete one for sell, they all are missing parts. I have opened it once. It has the unused stickers, the missiles are still attached to the plastic thingy and the instructions are there. I believe the car/robot has never been taken out and I don't want to pull it out. So my question is what do I do with it?
I would verify that it isn't a KO - could be legit, you never know what people find in their attics and put in the goodwill bin - and then have it graded. There's a few users here on tfw2005 who might be able to help you determine if it's genuine, Diaclone has a small but extremely knowledgeable fan base. If it's for real and in that good condition, it'd make a really nice "highlight piece" in a Transformers collection, but since you don't collect them, I think what you have there is a very good return on investment for your $3.
Holly shnikies!!! I think Maz would be the best bet on seeing if that guy is a legitimate pre-transformers piece. As he is a collector of those figures
Before Hasbro rebranded the line as The Transformers they released the Diakron line in the US. I think the three car releases were a red Sunstreaker, a black Ironhide and Trailbreaker in some other colour. Apparently they didn't sell too well, but a few months later when they were rebranded as the Transformers the same moulds knocked the cabbage patch kids off the top of the toy charts. Just recently read a passage from a book on TF history! Maz is definitely the guy you'd want to talk to though around here.
Nice find! Although that plastic/diecast quality is looking a bit questionable. I found one at a Flea Market about a year ago, got it $40 bucks.
You know, knockoff or not, I'd pretty much lose my mind if I found this at a flea market or thrift store for three bucks. I'd also keep it. Because it's super cool.
Wow, that is potentially a great piece! If I recall correctly, Sunstreaker has been identified by several Japanese toy designers as the first Transformer designed.
Whoa, congrats on a massive score! I love hearing about deals like this. A knock off of DK-1 or a red Sunstreaker doesn't exist. Yours doesn't have the most perfect box, but overall it's one of the nicest I've ever seen, given the unused contents. There may not be any MIB ones for sale now, but some have sold recently: Takara Pre Transformers Diakron DK 1 Red Sunstreaker with Box and Accessories | eBay Pre Transformers Diakron DK 1 Red Sunstreaker with Most Accessories Diaclone G1 | eBay I'd value yours at $175-$200 Also, on a personal note, I take yours as proof of something I've long suspected but have not yet confirmed: Some DK-1's came with Japanese stickers instead English language ones.
I checked with a friend that collects pre TF's, he said that the diakron Sunstreaker is a nice piece but not especially valuable. In terms of pre-TF's, the blue trailbreaker is worth more. I would look at this as more a piece of transformers history rather than a monetary sum. It definitely looks like a cool piece.
