(quick story.... Well not really LOL) So last night I went to adjust a few things in my Detolf when I noticed something weird.. First My Apollyon did not have my MP lazerbeak perched on his forearm. (found him transformed inside soundwave) Soundwaves arm was down and missing his finger and the small Megatron in alt mode. My MP Starscream base was missing. Optimus was moved. Bumblebee was moved. (Pretty much it was not as it should have been.) SOOOOOO I looked around I found the base and flight stand. I found the finger. The only casualty was the the small Alt mode Megs the clip part of the stock that connects it to the gun was broken.. There are only 4 people that live in my house and two of them (the wife and my mother in law) have absolutely no interest in my collectibles. That leaves one culprit. My 7 yo son. Well after first being impressed that he transformed my Laserbeak without breaking it (and telling my self that I loved my son) I decided that child proof locks I currently have on there will not cut it any more. So my question is. Do they sell locks that require keys for the Detolf case
Interesting story (makes me really antsy thinking about my daughter being able to get into my shelves...). I've seen keyed locks that were installed on Detolfs, but you may want to check the Detolf thread that's floating around the forum for that info. I'm just curious about what sort of locks you were using in the first place. My daughter's almost a year and a half and has been showing A LOT of interests in my Detolfs and Bestas (which have glass doors). She's shown me that she can easily open my Besta glass doors, but now she's starting to go after the Detolfs. I've been looking into locks for my Bestas and I think I found a good one. But I'm still looking into locks for my Detolfs as well.
This is what I was originally using.. (now it's time for something with keys..) Safety 1st Adjustable Strap (2 Pack) : Target
Hey timcrook that is some of the worst advice I have heard in a while,I am sure the guy likes his collection, and with a 7 year old that is like a freakin guarantee one day he will come home to find Appollyon destroyed, kids at that age are considered human wrecking balls. So I fully understand and sympathize with the OP,that is the whole reason for the detolfs,so little monsters can't get their grubby hands on fine figures like that. I hate to be so direct but I sure as hell wouldn't want my pride & joy demolished within minutes when it took days or weeks or longer to make money enough to buy one.
This is why I will never have kids! They broke your toys if it were me a would've grounded him for 2 weeks no soda only water no internet only reading and no tv either.
nahh it was just the small connector piece so. Yea irritated but NOT the end of the world... I love my son and he is totally into the G1 Cartoon now. So I just have to up the security...
It kinda was tb-1599 meant as sarcasm, but in my case having 3 nephews in the range of 3 to 9 years of age living in the house full time I am constantly having to watch them like hawks so they don't get their hands on them and destroy them (well all except the middle child which has grown out of transformers),but he has moved onto even more expensive stuff namely LEGO's,which I don't mind so much since they are more repairable of he breaks a piece off it just snaps right back on unlike Transformers. But I was not trying to insult timcrook, just trying to explain why kids and transformers don't mix. Also to timcrook I wanted to apologize as I wasn't trying to target you, hope you understand.Later.
What I've learned is to actually let my kids play with the toys while I sit and play along with them. I've explained to both my 6 and 8 year old that my toys are like their toys, except I just like to keep them together, in tact and without breakage. Explaining to them and playing with them knocks out two things at. It gets rid of their curiosity, plus it helps them understand where I'm coming from. I've had several lines for several years and I've never, ever had an instance where they broke my stuff or had to discipline them over toys. And my final thought to this is - they're toys. They look attractive to us, so even more so to a child. So, sit with your kids and play with them.
No I mean what timcrook said. I am guessing it was sarcasm.. LOL (very hard to distinguish online LOL)
I have 3 sons and they have all opened my Detolfs at some point and played with the Masterpieces. Obviously I hope they don't break them, but the risk is worth it to cultivate a possible interest in Transformers. It has only happened 3 or so times over 3 years. The most recent was my oldest son opened the cases and rearranged the TF's all kicking each other in the nuts. Cracked me up. How could I not laugh?
well I was able to get some G1 figures for him at some local swap meets and garage sales.. He also has a bunch of figures I have given him so he is good to go... My main concern to be honest is the case that he was messing with has my Titan Metroplex. I am afraid if he is not careful it could topple over and hurt him...
Just the other day my 5 year old daughter thought it would be funny if she grabbed MP Buzzsaw and flew it around the house. It was a nervous minute as I chased her down and made sure nothing was broken.
Am I the only one who finds it odd he'd refer to his children as little monsters and a toy as his pride and Joy? Transfans, everyone. Bravo.
little monsters and grubby hands I agree with. LOL Pride and Joy. That would prob be my heavy modded gears of war 2 Lancer with lights and sounds..
