I am seriously considering calling it a day after the Titan Wars toy line. It seems that the Classics theme has reached a near cycle from 1984 to 1987. Now do not get literal on me and start flaming me as I know a lot of characters still have not gotten an updated toy.

Ever since the Generations Legends Class Optimus Prime Wave, it seems that Hasbro has started to gradually remake figures that already have an updated version. I fully understand that this is inevitable in an evergreen toy line, but I have told myself that once Classics has reached a cycle and characters are started being remade, it is a sign for me to call it a day. The Titan Wars toy line kind of marks 1987 with the Headmasters theme, so it is kind of a perfect time to call it a day too.

I am pretty satisfied as it is, and I also collect other toys. Bandai is releasing the Legacy Thunder Megazord, and there are some LEGO Super Heroes sets that I wish to pick up too.

Honestly, I grew up in the 90s where Power Rangers was all the rage and played huge part of my childhood. I liked Transformers too, but it did not really became a thing for me until 2006 where I begun collecting Generation 1 Reissues to fulfill my nostalgic needs from Generation 2.

I have a great job, so for me cost is not really a problem, but space is. All I have is a single room for me to put my toys, and it is the same room that I sleep in. There is no way I can have an Encore Fortress Maximus, a Generations Metroplex, an Unite Warriors Devastator, a Generations Fortress Maximus, and whatever else they are going to release all squeezed in my room along with hundreds of other smaller figures... Maybe I will try to catch up when I finally have my own house in like 2022? But generally, I like a full stop in the things that I am doing so that I can look back and enjoy them without feeling a missing gap.

I wouldn't do that. You'll end up regretting it. If money isn't a issues have some custom shelves mad that go up to your roof and also a dedicated spot to put Titan figures

If you don't enjoy it anymore, it's time to get out. However, think about why you're collecting at all. If it's a hobby then treat it like one. If fishing is your hobby; do you go to all your favorite fishing spots and mount the catches on a wall and say, that's all the wall space I have, I'm done with fishing forever?
If you're into collecting wine; do you buy all your favorite vintage and call it a day on wine drinking? Into bonsai? Find a good tree and be done? Tranformers, calling it a day? -The answer to all these is ,of course not. We do hobbies for as long as we can. There is no END. If you like fishing, why stop? Like wine? There's always something you haven't tried. Like bonsai, nobody can stop at one tree. It's a way of life. So, they're making CW Hound but you already have Classic Hound, so what. Keep the one you like best. Think of it like clothes, we all have white dress shirts. If they made a new white dress shirt you like more, we dont get upset. You either buy the new one or don't. Transformers are just toys so get rid of the ones you don't like anymore. Donate them. Are you gonna hang on to the Ultra class Silverbolt? It's lame next to the CW Silverbolt. We should thank Hasbro for making it happen, not be upset that a toy has been replaced by a better one. So you're running out of space. Who isn't. Time to store it away or sell off the lame ones. It helps to have one big display area where you switch out your collection yearly. Keeps things fresh. In the end, all the robots might or might not be worth anything but the hobby is the transforming and posing part. We don't expect any money back from our fishing hobby, why expect it from this. Unless you don't enjoy it anymore, then get out.

Yeah, it shouldn't be a chore. The good should far outweigh the bad.

As long as TT makes G1 MPs, I'm in. Hell, it looks like I'm ordering UW Devastator, so they really got me by the balls now.

You thought of renting a storage unit or just getting rid of figures that just don't do it for you?

You're probably not alone in thinking this. I know a lot of people were going to do the same thing with Classics up to year 1, then year 2, etc. It's why Hasbro/TakTom have been so resistant giving us full rosters, because they don't want us to leave.

But this should be a hobby not a chore, why even collect toys if it's not fun? FYI I reached 'burnout' a few years ago. Space and cost and (relatively) poor DotM toys all conspired to push me out of the hobby. But then I took a step back (I bought a hell of a lot of RotF) and asked myself, why was I buying so much? So I didn't leave, I just curbed it to a much smaller (and comfortable) level.

Lastly, you don't need to have every figure you own on display. I have over 1500 and only a fraction of that is actually on display.

Oh and how much are storage units to rent in the US? Seems like an unneccessary expense if you ask me, especially for toys. It'll be what? $200 a month maybe? That's $2400 a year, every year until you get more space? Storage units are great in the short term or for businesses to store stock who have good turnover who can afford the rent but not for people to store toys.

I've gone through my lows as well. I'm kinda there now.
After calling it quits several times I've come to accept that I will never call it quits all the way.
These days I'm just incredibly picky and am on constant re-evaluation of what I have.

There's only 1 figure I am after, and should I get CW Magnus I'm done. Nothing else out there worth it to me.

You can rent small units for around $40/mo here. Plenty of room to store a bunch of TFs.

i can't call it a day.. especially with the masterpiece line chugging along.

i buy plenty of other things as well.. and with hasbro cutting costs and making cheaper figures, i've really lost interest in the non combining characters (unless they're beast wars, in which case i'm totally on board) .. but the legends figures, or the awful leader class figures, no thank you.

on a side note, as a power rangers (mmpr) fan myself.. it's rather annoying that these legacy figures aren't articulated. i mean, companies have managed to make articulated votron figures for a while now. and with the prices that these legacy figures are being sold at, you'd think that they would've added some articulation.

it's been 20+ years since the original came out.. i think that's plenty of time for them to have articulated the ankles, knees, hips, elbows, and head. so.. for something clearly aimed at adult fans, and priced as such, it's surprising that they decided not to give these figures any extra movement. especially considering they're all new molds.

i did buy the legacy megazord and had planned on getting everything else.. but the better proportions aren't enough for me to sink all of that money into the line. i guess i'll have to wait another 20+ years for them to release proper versions of these zords.

Your not the only one about to call it quits with the classics line.. I have been collecting on and off since 1999 and now I have a majority of the classics and don't see them coming out with a whole lot more I want. I have decided to go for CW Ultra Magnus, CW Bruticus, and TW Blaster and maybe 1 or 2 others and I'm out. If they come out with Fortress Maximus I'll probably get him but, other than that, I'm stopping with the regular releases and just go for MP from now on. I like them a whole lot more and would rather spend my money on those then the regular lines.

I don´t think I´ll ever quit. Sure, I will take breaks here and there, but overall, there will probably always be something to pull me back in. Maybe Starscream, he did it twice, in 2008 (Henkei! Henkei!) and in 2013 (Takara Generations FOC). I have never been a completist, and I am something of an omnivore, mostly dedicated to G1/IDW esthtics (I like my TFs to have proper noses, i.e. look more like humans than little gray aliens) but I regularly sample other lines than CHUG/MP. I think only the frequency of buying will vary for me...

What's a small unit? I was renting a unit that was... 4mx 4m for work storage for almost £300 a month in the UK, that's almost $470 US a month! It was good to begin with but I got rid of it as soon as I could.

I've reached the point where I am scaling back. As we get older, other expenses come along, and we get busier as jobs turn into careers. Sadly, feels like there is less time for enjoying toys, so the logical response is to do as Tikgnat says, take a step back, decide what you truly enjoy, and go from there.

For example, I used to buy a lot of stuff for the sake of doing galleries for the site. I bought all of Prime that way. I'm pretty much done with mainlines now - while I still enjoy the shows, what I love in plastic are Masterpiece, and Classics. Though for Classics, I'm resistant to buying "reruns" - it's why I've not got Cyclonus, or Windcharger, and will not be getting the CW versions of the classic Autobots.

That Sky Lynx, however, is mine, as soon as he is available :p

I quit every other day. And then I make the mistake of looking at yet another reveal on this Site and I'm back in for........something gorgeous, irresistible and "necessary" to fill one more gap.

And then I'll quit tomorrow :D

If it ever gets to being a chore, more reflex than actual fun, a real drain or even dangerous to real life responsibilities it will get elbowed real quick. But that isn't today.

Flirting with the idea with each passing day. As others have very correctly stated, your circumstances and interests change as you grow older and other things take priority.

I was into exploring different lines, getting more figures, branching out when I was 17-18, working a little to just pay for my hobbies, and living with my family.

This changes drastically as you flash forward to other responsibilities [rent, saving up for a mortgage, smaller flat on your own, other expenses].

Now I collect more to have figures as centre pieces, detest a cluttered display [so there's less of an inclination to buy whatever I see], and most releases see at least 3-4 stages of processing before I commit to buy something.

And at the end of the day, you don't really need all of them anyway. Just a few more, then another slimming down [selling extras, unwanted stuff] and I think I'm good.

If I want to sleep in our bedroom, I had to keep mine in a measely room in the basement. I was very happy with it until I over grew it within a year.

Last week, I tried talking my way to get my display out in the open, in the basement not just a room and nada. The wife is apparently immune to my jedi powers of suggestion.

Maybe when my youngest turns six and stop putting objects in his mouth.

As for the thread, i'm getting close to quitting. why? Cause I feel like it never ends.

My goal for the next few years is to save up a deposit for a house - & to do this I'm gonna have to finally become an adult & sell my collection.

If I sell each piece individually (I'll have to take detailed pictures, research the sale prices & package them all up - this is no small feat with a collection around the 670 mark), I'm hoping to add an extra $30K+ to my bank balance.

She wants me to do it, I know I'm gonna have to do it but I sure as hell know it ain't gonna be easy...

I was in this same place, emotionally a while back. Every things was Optimus Prime and Bumblebee or bots I did not care about. Then Combiner Wars happened, much to Mrs. Smitty's chagrin.
