Seeing that the last masterpieces to date are *trying* to go more cartoon accurate, do you think it would be possible for Takara to make a new optimus prima mold that is actually more cartoon accurate than mp-10?
I think mp-10 is starting to be the least cartoon accurate of the lot since masterpiece reboot with mp-10.

    What do you think?

Honestly? I think MP-10 remains the gold standard for transformers, gokin, and giant robot action figures in general. Few other figures look so good in all modes, have a true perfect transformation, and have such amazing posability and stability. The best a new mold could hope to do is some minor evolutionary refinements.

Yes, he can be done better but why waste the time when they're are plenty of guys that need to be done? Not really a huge fan of the non toon legs, arms are too long, legs in truck mode aren't great.

MP10 already masterpiece'd out the old OP toy set to the best it can be. If when Masterpiece does go back to the Optimus Prime well, it will probably enshrine a new version, like Ginrai/Powermaster

Japan loves it's Primes so a V3 within the next five years wouldn't surprise me. More down to the demand within the Japanese market for a MP Prime to feature the most contemporary engineering rather than due to screen accuracy minutia.

I would rather they concentrate on new characters... There's a zillion great Optimuses, and MP10 is great already.

    There will be one.

The japanese market does not really care for a variety of characters---they want their big heroes, and they want them often.

Look at the gazillion iterations of the RX78-2 Gundam.

Pretty soon there's going to be one at some point, maybe more stylized, maybe "pointier", maybe more articulated, maybe smaller so it sets a new scale...

Maybe one day, but I think we're quite a ways off from that.

    I agree.

The North American market is now on it's sixty eighth GI Joe 3.3/4" Snake Eyes. :D

So I suppose the world over the big heroes are the most coveted.

sure it is, but i am unsure why i would want it. just how many masterpiece g1 optimus primes do i need on my shelves?

i have limited room, not unlimited. if you are going to do another optimus, do an optimus we have not gotten. like MP laser rod optimus prime.

they can just re-issue the g2 toy and call it a masterpiece. because it is. or just release that original prototype.

Mp10 to me is still the best Masterpiece mold. It looks incredible, 100 % cartoon accurate or not. Its only a matter of time before another is released...but I don't see that happening for several years.

I've a feeling with Star Saber and now Optimus Primal on the way, TT will focus instead on other MP Autobot leaders before we get to G1 Optimus 3.0, including other iterations of Optimus (like Armada and God Ginrai, even if he's not technically Optimus).

Like most have said, not for a while. MP10 can be refined further, Hasui himself said that he could've completely hidden the tires inside the legs but thought half way was good enough. He also said that the goal isn't to look all cartoon or all realistic but to best capture the character's essence.

Well, of course it's possible and probably inevitable at some point as long as the brand is in existence. I have all 68 versions of Snake-Eyes, 259 versions of Boba Fett and 612 versions of Spider-Man and there have only been 3 versions of Optimus Prime I've ever been interested in so there could definitely be room for more. Since I just paid for MP-10 and the current scale/MP line is not complete with the characters I want yet, I personally wouldn't mind if they focus on other characters and not Optimus Prime until I have options for everyone else I want first.

    Yeah. I agree.

Prime is definitely the least toon accurate since his release.

I'd love to see a new, more accurate one, but like you said, there are more different characters that need to be done.

MP-10 is more of a perfect amalgam of Optimus Prime rather than a super G1 toon accurate figure like prowl or tracks.

He did also say that his way of hiding the tyres better in the legs would result in the feet looking too small, which is worth mentioning. Spot on with the cartoon-essence rather than 100% cartoon-accuracy (although he did go to the effort to make the gas tanks squared instead of round).

Although cartoon accuracy isn't always that much better than what we got:

But the more recent trend we're seeing with Ultra Magnus, Tracks and Ironhide is very nearly 100% just that.

I think it is very true there will be one eventually simply because he is a signature character. But I hope they don't and focus on more characters (where's the Decepticons??)
