I may be the only one who does this, but I figured I might as well ask the question. Do you rename your figures based on what you feel like might work? I don't mean giving them names of different Transformers, but giving them entirely new names. For example, I call the repaints of 10th Anniversary Beast Wars Megatron & Optimus Prime (from the Cybertron line) Fallout and Warhead, respectively. In addition, Transmetal Optimus Primal is Blacklight, the little bat Optimus Primal is Reverb, and the Megatron Crocodile figure is Curvature.
Nope...I call all my 3P figures what they are supposed to be in the official Transformers world though.
Yeah, for example I call Beast Hunters Wheeljack Wheelwell. An Ex-Wrecker gone rouge and leader of a bounty hunter group.
I love me some Fansproject Stuntedcons. That's all I have. I was planning on buying FOC Fruiticus but couldn't do it. Sometimes, I kitbash some then make them look like another bot.
I call my 3P figures by their 3P names. They don't live with official Transformers. They (and my MP figures) are more "works of art" rather than toys, so they go behind a glass case. As for renaming official figures.. I dunno. I usually don't. I did rename most of the CHMS Seekers so I don't have duplicate characters. Windwhistler (blue RM) Nightlight (green RM) Moonshine (yellow RM) Stormshot (yellow Sunstorm) Sunkist (orange Sunstorm) Darkstorm ("black death")
I've only done it twice. First time it was with Beast Machine Mirage, who I renamed into Matrix. The other is Fansproject Steel Core, who I renamed into Omega Primax.
This...kinda. For some it's been so long since I saw official or 3p names, and they just blurr together in my memory.
Beast Hunter Bulkhead - Brawn Age of Extinction Hot Shot - Tracks Other than that I don't rename figures.
I call my Beast Wars Megatron, Gecko. For some odd reason I like the name. I'll also call my Animated Blackarachnia Elita 1
I only rename customs usually, but sometimes if a figure just works a someone else more then I'll go with it.
I used to do it a lot when I blended all my figures into one big mega-continuity, mostly to give characters with multiple toys different names and personalities. When Classics and Generations came along, though, that became way too much to handle. Now and then I'll rename and repurpose a toy, but it doesn't happen as much any more. Usually it's just to include a non-CHUG toy in my neo-G1 collection. For example, Cybertron Defense Red Alert is Warhead. Energon Strongarm is Outback, and Cybertron Armorhide is Pipes.
I did that with my TFC Gear of war 3 (not six gun)I renamed him to Armory. I do refer to Six Sigma as Six Gun as well as IF turrets.
I have renamed a couple of figures. For me, RID Optimus Prime is Pyro, which works, because Pyro was a fire truck, and did look kind of like Optimus Prime. I think I've named a couple of other figures as the characters they are homaging. Or, characters that have name changes due to trademark issues get their original names, like how Generations Darkmount has that name instead of Straxus. Once I get Combiner Wars Bruticus, my current FOC Bruticus is going to be Ruination.
Sure it does. All the ones he mentioned make perfect sense. I don't really rename myself (aside from calling trademark-challenged characters by their original names, or occasionally naming a custom), but I enjoy seeing other people's name choices when they do. It's nice to see fans invest some imagination in their hobby like that. I like hearing people's different fanons/headcanons and repurposing ideas for the same reason.
Botcon burn out is now flatline FoC Skywarp is storm cloud. Gen Amarda starcream is air blade need a new name and character for the other Botcon diclone guy though.
