I don't think they influenced Funpub's decision for this Botcon, no.
Fees would probably either be flat, or based off of units produced, rather than units sold. And they produced LESS toys for Botcon this year than in the past. Generally Funpub's line about Hasbro's involvement is saying what they CAN'T do, and funpub taking credit for what they could. Plus, add to that the fact that this served as much as a follow up to their 2006 Botcon as it did OG Beast Wars. I'd say it failry safe to say the the theme was not Hasbro's initiative.

And I believe Rhinox and Waspinator were there because of the toys, but unless we get a Moonracer or an Elita-1, I doubt Eucharis was a request from Hasbro. (not to mention the brand team responsible for those toys aren't the current team)

Well, I mean, you're wrong. Hasbro has to approve every set Botcon does and approve mould choices and character uses.

Don't get me wrong, Hasbro is for all intent's purposes totally, totally ignoring BW's anniversary, but if you want to get technical they did have input on the Botcon set.

Oh yeah, input, you're right. IDW handling the comic wouldn't have happened if they were 100% hands off.

My point was just that Botcon was definitly not a case of hasbro saying "theme the con for Beast Wars"

But it also would've never happened were it not for Hasbro's approval.

If Hasbro had developed some vendetta against BW we straight up would not have seen the Botcon set this year. It's more apathy than outright ignorance.

Hah, I read the first half of this comment, thought "No, I'm more saying that they're completely apathetic to Beast Wars" then read the second half.

I find it ironic that of the entire Franchise, both filler lines end up being among the most beloved in the adult collector audience. Classics evolved into Generations with at least five iterations in the past decade despite being nothing but a rushed stopgap when the live action film production was delayed a year. And the majority of the RID Decepticons are unapolegetically straight repaints of older/canceled molds yet the three most popular bad guys are just as popular if not more than the original guys the mold was made for (Any time G2 Laser Prime shows up, the entire collective fandom's first thought is HOT DAMN A NEW RID SCOURGE SOON, Sky-Byte stole the appearance of some guy named Cybershark because poetry, and Ruination managed to repackage the Combaticons as a bunch of similar dudes everybody wants anyway).

Obviously this is a primitive form of telepathy you two have discovered.

Now go find a Jeager to fight Kaijus with. IT IS YOUR DESTINY.

I imagine that when asked about this year's Botcon toys Hasbro say "Who? Yeah sure whatever, it's beer thirty."

True, but I'm referring to actual figures released under the name they were intended to be. Nobody calls Movie Fracture "Classics Crasher", even though that was also the intent of that figure.

Basically, as long as it's officially named as the character on the package, it's an updated version of the character (barring situations where it's problematic, like loss of trademark or branding conflict, in which case we go on Word of God).

They had lost the names to Crasher and Getaway at the time, which is why they changed the names. I was at Botcon the year they showed them off and the names were changed due to rights (Crankcase was fine) and they were in movie packaging because of Wal-Mart insisting it.

So from episode 169 of transmissions podcast

Charles had stated that due to the massive image leak of figures.Their source has gone underground much like before to avoid detection

    Hot-rod
    Trigger-happy
    Sixshot
    Double-cross
    Getaway
    G2 laser prime
    Megatron

There will most likely be no new info for a few weeks while the heat dissipates. Given the fact that these were official classified figure design sheets. Yes I know these have leaked before but the hosts say this leak has definitely been noticed by Hasbro.

Side note they speculate on an old image of a possible moonracer and don't know / slash theory that this could eventually be a future figure.

Yeah they do. Fracture and Breakaway were used as names because Hasbro didn't have legal claim to Crasher and Getaway. They would have used those names whether the packaging said Universe or Bay branding.

Dammit. I guess this is the downside of getting so many leaks at the same time.

Still, a new Moonracer would be awesome.

You know, that's fair - even despite Car Robots being older, I will gladly admit Armada Prime has held up way worse than Fire Convoy, and so on. So I'm torn - do I want Car Robots to take precedence because I love it and it came out first, or do I want the UT to get a shot to update some of their creakier designs?

I guess on the other hand, you UT fans already got a decent Universe Hot Shot...where's my CHUG Wildrider?! :p

That's just the unending magic of Car Robots, my friend. Don't forget the constant begging and pleading for a Fire Convoy repaint as soon as we saw the CW Hot Shot Voyager. :D  (Although, I have to admit, the obsession with Black Convoy confuses the hell out of me too sometimes, and that's one of my favorite molds ever!)

Armada Prime is the figure that needs an update the most. It had reaaally limited articulation even for the time. I think a Voyager of just the cab would do a fine job while Third Parties make a proper trailer to combine.

I honestly don't know how they could improve Fire Convoy with an update. That figure had everything: Biceps swivel, thighs swivel, wrists swivel, waist swivel, ankle articulation and he can combine with the rest of his vehicle mode to boot. If anything, the figure would probably be downgraded with an update due to the more limited budget they have now.

    Understandable.

People say Wheelie could be retooled into Moonracer. I, I just don't see it.

While I hope its not true, her IDW alt mode is a little bubble car. Just like Wheelie.
