Fort Max and Scorponok were rivals until Optimus came back and Max retired. Optimus and Scorponok were the two remaining faction leaders after the underbase saga. They interacted during that (a truce to collect the fallen) and then all of the interaction when Optimus surrendered and fighting Unicron together.

That's actually a real good point. I'll have to reread and see if that tracks.

    I offer a provisional retraction. :D

I had never thought of that. Kind of brilliant.

As to the general conversation, I think it's pretty easy to use some piece of fiction or previous toys to justify Scorponok at Leader, Devastator-class, or Titan-class height and no one's preference is particularly right or wrong. I'm (somewhat) patiently awaiting PE's Deathstalker because that's the size I want, but I'll get a Titan-class one, too, if it's well-sized with Titan FortMax

When I read it, the impression I had was that Scorponok was not one to sacrafice himself, but Zarak was, and it was the Zarak personality that was looking for approval when he sacraficed himself for his cause. There was a whole plot previously in the story how the Scorponok personality was becoming dominant and Zarak was more sympathetic to the Autobot allied Nebulans, Zarak had let some captives go while Scorpnok opposed it. I always figured this was Zarak's last gasp at his humanity (or would be be nebulanity?) Saying Zarak knew Hi-Q on Nebulos isn't a stretch.

The TFwiki entry seems to agree with me...

I had never thought of it that way.

That really makes Op's comment make a lot more sense to me now.

Overlord should definitely have 2 robot modes, if not 3, the jet which attaches to the arm could easily be a third robot!

I'd also be down for Scorponok in both Leader and Titan class.

i guess it was more that they seemed to be the respective leaders of their sides post-Headmasters (through the bulk of Furman's run, which i've reread much more then Budiansky's). at least that is how i am remembering it :p

I always remember Scorponok seeming like the most 3 dimensional of the 'con leaders...

clearly the solution is to make a Scorponok at all size classes.
Titan, Leader, Voyager, Deluxe, Legend, and Titan Master/Legion(?)

If Overlord gets released in TR (Which, considering that we're getting Powermaster Prime, doesn't bode well for upgraded Power/Godmasters) it should be a jet and a tank with separate robot modes that can combine, and include two titanmasters, one named Giga for the Tank, and Mega for the Jet. The Overlord mode would have a helmet over whichever head you use and the other one can store in the chest.

Nah, the solution is to make a Leader-sized Scorponok who slides into the hollow chest of a Titan body to form the head. Like Cerebros, but with the excess mass being hidden away in the torso.

I have pretty much been saying that since the day I have joined. Because "tradition" never did entail that the character should be the same size, have the same transformation, etc. It's all about using the version of the character that best suits the series, line, etc. :)

    So do I. :)

I don't think Trypticon will be out until late 2017. We're more likely to see news of Overlord first.

The earliest we'll see Trypticon is at New York Toy Fair in February probably.
