Some collector interviews I have been waiting for patiently for a long time, knowing the content and imagery would be worth it. When I returned to the hobby in 2011 I noticed a few vintage enthusiasts who had managed to assemble exquisite collections and get themselves quite well known for it in the community, as well as becoming an inspiration for others in their quest for perfection. Hyperoptic is one of those collectors, and in addition to his G1 collection, he has a lovely story or two to tell from his time working on Transformers videogames. It also goes to show that differing opinions on the merits of various Transformers eras need not cause a lack of kinship, as my own friendship with Hyperoptic has proven. While it is a shame that my return to increased involvement in the hobby coincides with his 'retirement' from active collecting, it is my pleasure to bring you his interview...

Great read, been waiting a long time for this interview, definitely one of the most down to earth people on the boards.

Glad to see this article. This in one of my favorite collections of all I've seen and I marvel everytime Hyperoptic shares in the G1 thread.

It's nice to hear his perspective on a number of topics and it's candid and direct but remains helpful, which as he alluded to is not always the behavior of those on the Internet and who grace forums.

Once again an enjoyable read....looking forward to the next one!

Excellent all around and well deserved!

Hyperoptic has assembled one of the most focused and impressive G1 collections within the community and has inspired me to redo my own personal G1 collection.

Wow, to not only have complete G1/G2 collections (I am sooo jealous of those European Action Masters) but to have worked on a TF video game, that sounds like a dream. And that pic with Welker and Cullen... :jawdropper:
I'm glad I had the opportunity to interact with Hyperoptic at least a little in the G1 thread.

I still remember the night that I watched the YouTube video linked in the article. At the time, I hadn't completed my US run of G1, and it still was one of my main dreams to do. I was absolutely compelled to contact this guy, as he seemed like a kindred spirit.

    I was right.

Hyperoptic has become one of my best of friends. We've shared our ups and downs in both our hobby and just life in general. He's helped me out with my own collection as well as inspire me to collect and go about this hobby in ways that I probably never would have.

His collection is one of my favorites out there. He's a VERY focused collector, and that's something I can truly appreciate. His love for this hobby is deep and true - again, something I can appreciate well.

I'm really glad to read this one, gang. He's truly top-notch.

I've been wondering when this interview would pop up (to the point where I started to think I'd just missed it) and am glad to have read it.

One thing that was said that I'm starting to empathize with more and more, especially lately, is the shifting state of Classics. It's not taken the joy out of collecting those figures for me, but certain things are giving me pause in a way they never have before. Even though I still collect them, I totally get his sentiments on that front.

Nice read as always with these interviews Maz. These are probably my most favorit articles you put out.

On Hyperoptic, I remeber when he joined and started buying G1..it went fast from start to were he is now. He has one of the most amazing G1 collections I have seen even if he collects Action masters ;) .

I still remeber the topic he did (If I remeber correctly) were he showed his MISB Brave Max..and he opend it. I know I did not see eye to ey on that but hey it was his toy but some of the response by ppl was wtf.

With his love for vintages he would certanly be one of the ppl I would like to meet if I could. Same would go for many ppl in the G1 thread.

Now when is Sweden gonna get som represents in your inteviews Maz? hint hint ;) .

Also you attending AA this year Maz? since its the last one.

    Kepp up the good work.

I'll do a Swedish interview when Swedish collectors stop telling me their favourite articles of mine are the ones where someone else is doing the talking :D

I kid, surely not too far in the future!

This was a pleasure to read. Hyperoptic has always been an inspiration for my Generation 1 collecting, that's the honest truth.

So glad to have this interview to revisit now :thumb
