PREACH IT BROTHER ! That's what REALLY being a kid was all about ! None of this social media B.S. , video gaming on line crap. Hell , cyber bullying was even a word back then ! The 80's were truly the Golden age....

Well, not all of us older fans are that fortunate nowadays or some are in a tough spot momentarily.
I'm from 1978 and I simply can't spend too much on toys at the moment.

Also, oldschool G1 fans vary in many ways.

Some of us never lost interest.
Some of us came back after a 20 year TF hiatus.
Some of us even changed opinion on what they liked formerly.

It all goes to my kids.I've done told them,i don't care if they keep it or sell it.That there is money in what i've got,so don't just give it away.My son loves G1 and collects G1 and reissues.Fans will show their kids their "G1" and the their toys could be passed down. The cycle never ends.Even my daughter has a couple, buts its more about looks and who then any cartoon. She doesn't care for them. She like her reissue Piranacon cause he looks cool.

I'll always keep my finger to the vein of whats going on,but i do at some point i'll stop collecting altogether. So i guess i'll never really age out of cartoons. The toys i will.I'm a kid of the 80s and i don't really collect G1.It was always more about the G1 toon then toys.My toys were Gijoe.30 years from now,our grandkids could remember that cool transformer grandpa had and now they want it to remember you by.

So much truth in this post. The more the years pass, the chances of finding MIB or Complete starts to slow down.I'm sure i'm not the only one who has had their kids loss a part.Speaking of Joe.I let my kids play with my Rollingthunder and they lost one of the antenia. It sucked, but it passed. Its just going to get harder to find those perfect figures.Certain G1 toys will always command higher prices. The Takara stuff goes for big bucks and i don't see that changing.Back then too,we threw everthing away.Keeping the boxes or MIB was never a thought. We played with them, lost parts, broke them. There is alot still out there, but i'd can only think about how much was just throwed away.

More truth.I still find myself drinking out of creeks(just don't drink water that isn't running. That was one of the first things i told my kids when i showed the that) when i go out hiking with my kids.we were either immortal or stupid or a mix.I go back to some of the spots i played and what i did as a kid.Holy shit, how am i still alive. Now someone sees your kid playing in the rain and its a end of the world, your a bad parent now.

Cyber bullying? Pfft Bullying in general wasn't even an issue. If somebody repeatedly picked on you, ya socked him in the nose, and went on about your business... end of story. No parents suing the crap out of each other for emotional damages; you just got in a fight and then there was a mutual respect between the two of you from then on out.

    SACK UP YOUNGSTERS!

playing in unattended housing construction sites on a daily basis (better then building your own fort), swimming in new foundations after a heavy rain...wow...yeah looking back on 80's childhood I have no logical explanation on how me and most of my friends from back then are still alive. was fun though.

on the subject though I think the G1 characters and original animation still hold enough weight to attract newer fans brought in by the movies and such. the G1 characters will still be held high long after us 80's kids have been buried underground.

I think of it like LOTR. Though the movies brought in craploads of fans, most recognize them for being based off of books and may have gone back to read them due to the movies getting their interest. Think TF will be the same way no matter what iteration they jump to in 100 years.

Yes, for a real collector, he or she will one day want to find out about the roots. Once he backtrack he will find something that is captivating and wanna collect. If enough of such collectors, the G1 figures will still continue to have demand. Hence price should still increase in such instances.

It have proven with time for toys that are not even found before most of us born, they still carry tremendous value.

I think the next step is to determine, you are real collector or just a toy buyer.

I was just thinking that with oil apparently running out in the next 15 years we will need to find a new way to make plastic of some kind, this hobby has a doomed date and hasbro knows it hense there moves to other medias.

So with that in mind our toys will become rarer and more sought after

I know right? I have younger siblings that would probably spontaneously com bust if they spent more than an hour outside without their phones.

I am not a fan of this modern social media B.S. I'm just old school and like to keep my personal life well personal. Kids taking pictures of there damn food is just .... well there are no words.

Yea life is definitely changing for me TF wise priorities are completely different now then what they were just two years ago. I can actually see a time when I won't be coming here anymore. I never thought I would be saying that two years back.

Oh yea! Loved me that slip & slide had all kinds of bruises the next day to the rocks in the yard but it was worth it.

Well that's how I solved a lot of my issues growing up. I'm not sure what that says about me.

Did you take a picture of it and post it to your facebook?

GI Joe would be a good comparison. The originals fetch large sums of money nowadays.

I see no reason why G1 will fair any worse.

Don't even get me started on how soft the youngsters are compared to us 80's kids. You know what amazes me the most is how they will use the internet for everything except learning. Vine vids all day but a tutorial is out of the question. Google it bitch!!

2 pieces of good news for you then. First up that "oil running out in 15 years". That was cooked up back in the 70's during the days of "peak oil" theory. It is no longer true. All this talk of Frakking you hear. What that is is modern technology has made it possible to tap an order of magnitude more oil and fossil fuels. Often in places heretofore fairly energy barren. Much of the looming instability in the Middle East stems from the sudden change in world energy sources that has effectively destabilized and shattered OPEC and now runs the risk of bankrupting these single revenue source energy producing states. Rising Dussian belligerence on the world stage is for ultimately similar reasons. They have lost their European energy monopoly. Current estimates put "peak oil" centuries away, if there is even such a thing.

Also plastics are being steadily formulated to use less and less oil.

The other good news is actually in that Hasbro stockholder report discussing the Transformers Movies. Not simply the "new movie in 2017" bit. But more interestingly how they have assembled a team to world build. It seems they are learning from watching Marvel. Don't leave total creative control to some directors vision. You are selling a product based in your world. It must be structured to fit the expectations of that world. One of the first lessons you learn from Marvel is to stop trying to re-invent the wheel in your own special vision. Instead go back to basics and give the people what they fell in love with to begin with. For Marvel it meant actually making movies based on their characters as they appeared in their comics. For Hasbro Transformers it will mean, at least on some level, G1. They may not toss out all the Bay'mentia. But they will evolve where they go to slowly look more like we expect, and let fans fall in love with the classic prominant characters all over again.
