I ran into a kind of interesting situation tonight and I'm hoping to get some advice from someone that may have had this issue before. So I went on a toy hunt this evening and was able to find Generations Combiner Wars Motormaster at Kmart. I got him home and was excited to get him out of the box. I noticed no issues taking the figure out of the box... until I transformed him. Once I got him into alt mode I realized he was missing two wheels. When I opened the box it was still sealed properly and it didn't look like the tape had been removed and reapplied. In addition, all of the plastic ties holding the figure in the tray were intact. Now I could even see the possibility of someone opening the package and being able to pop a wheel off of the legs without breaking any ties because they are semi-exposed, but the wheels on the arms are completely covered and concealed while in the tray, yet one of the missing wheels was from the arm. All of this leads me to believe there is no way that someone tampered with it, but that somehow it came from the factory like this. I have never opened a new figure with entire pieces missing out of the box, and I honestly don't know how often this type of thing occurs with Transformers products. The Kmart I found him at is almost 2 hours away from my house so I would rather not take it back to the store and return it. Does anyone know if I can email/call Hasbro directly and send a picture of the receipt and figure and ask them to just send me 2 replacement wheels? I'm just trying to figure out what the best course of action would be. I have also included a picture just in case my description wasn't clear enough. I would really appreciate any feedback from someone that has encountered a similar issue and/or if anybody knows if I can contact Hasbro and request the replacement parts since they are only clip on wheels and should be able to just pop new ones on to be good to go.
Wow. QC must have been having a pizza party when this came through. Hasbro will likely tell you to send it back and they will replace it with something of equal value. Something...
Hasbro won't do replacement parts. At best they will send a self-addressed box of some sort and you send the figure back to them. Chances are, you may not get a Motormaster back. I would try to take it back, you may find another one there. If not, get your money back and try stores closer to you.
Yeah I was pretty blown away that they would allow it to get away like that, but like I said all ties were still intact. I can't see any way someone could have taken them off and returned it to the store. Now I feel like the Kmart employee that I try to return it to will have trouble believing that I didn't take them off myself...
They won't, and can't, accuse you of taking the wheels off yourself. If an employee is stupid enough to wrongfully accuse you of theft, no need to continue talking with that employee. Just calmly ask for the manager, and explain that you got an accusation instead of an apology for being sold a defective item.
Like what was mentioned Hasbro will replace it but it may not be another Motormaster. The Walmart store credit may be a good option if you don't want to make another 2 hour trip. Unless there is another Kmart closer?
Pretty much this. You don't need to explain anything if you have a receipt. Just say I want to return this and that's it. If you have a closer KMart, you can return it to that location instead of driving an hour back to the original location.
If you look at the the box the bottom wheel on the leg is covered by the cardboard and hard to see unless you angle it just right. The wheel on the forearm... I have no excuse for that I definitely should have noticed. Honestly I had already been to like 8 stores looking for him with no luck. I had just gotten the Wave 2 Menasor limbs 2 stops before I found Motormaster. I was about to give up on finding it but I decided to try one last store and it was 15 minutes before closing time. I found Motormaster and it was the only one. Typically if there are more than one of a figure on the shelf I scrutinize paint and look of the figure to determine which one to get. In this case, it was late, I was tired, and I just couldn't believe that it was there so I grabbed him and headed home. Then when I got him out of package and transformed into alt mode it dawned on me a little too late that something was seriously off with him.
Me personally, I'd buy a cheap junker (possibly even a junker Optimus Prime) and replace the wheels, but that's just me.
Yeah hasbro will send you a figure of the same size class or price point , and not necessarily in the same line as the figure you sent in. you would have to be very very lucky to get another Motormaster.
those ties can be removed and put back.. it's not too terribly difficult. even with that said, i'm not sure why someone would buy this just to take a couple wheels.
