A friend sent me this awesome video. I don't think I have seen this posted on here yet, but I think that most of us on this site suffer from this "life destroying" or "life enriching" syndrome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcxQJi5TGMY
It's downright scary how much I can identify with the sufferers of this affliction exhibited on this video. "Hello. My name is Hotcakesbot and I am an action figure addict. I once drove three hours out of my way on a weeknight after working a full eight hour day and while suffering from a sinus infection just to buy a Generations Metroplex." I can't stop thinking about the guy that flipped out when "whether to leave in package or to open" was mentioned.
I often wonder if that's how "normal" people see this hobby, the same way I don't understand why someone would spend hundreds of dollars to watch an NFL game at at stadium In the eternal words of the different strokes theme song The world doesn't move to the beat of just one drum, what might be right for you may not be right for some Lol
Welp, I'm screwed. By the standards set by this video, I represent the worst of this terrible affliction... I own a MASSIVE collection of TF's and I own a Comic Shop. In all seriousness, the vid is funny, but as a plastic crack pusher, I've seen the real dark side of this hobby. I'm not talking about the relationships ruined by those who delve too deep into their habits, nor am I addressing the vast sums of money pissed away on Ebay. Not even getting ripped-off by con artist taking advantage of these poor fools. No, I'm talking about the darkest part of collecting... running out of space for your collection. It's true. There is no more tragic sight than a collector who has to box up parts of his/her treasures because they've run out of places to display them. And as sad as that is, it only gets worse as time passes. Soon more than half of your toys are boxed and stored away. Then you know you've really hit bottom when you run out of storage space.
No you hit rock bottom when you have to sell your treasures to make more room for em. i'm just about out of bookshelf space and my boyfriend tells me he'll help me build shelves on the walls. he's a real enabler that way. lol
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I just got home from picking up some RID figures at Target, then i see this thread.
That was hilarious. And of course, I am a fellow addict. What's really funny is how some collectors (myself included) arrange to meet up with local people (through something like these forums or craigslist) and carry out transactions out in public places like parking lots. It's exactly like a drug deal! If a cop were to witness it, things could get hairy...
That was hilarious. "But it's a variant..." That's me. I actually just obtained the valuable Mcfarlane Sports Picks Roger Clemens variant in Red Sox jersey this past weekend Also, the guy who notices his toys being out of place on the shelf? Also me.
The dude freaking out about taking stuff out of the box is my favorite part. I nearly choke laughing each time I see that. That's a great meltdown. Second favorite is the guy getting all bent out of shape when he finds his Optimus turned around backwards and he calls out that "these aren't toys you know!" I oo'd and ah'd when I saw the nice complete G1 Scorponok.
Just when i saw the black nemesis prime repaint of the armor knight optimus and watch this video lols!
More dumb than funny, but it had its moments. Sad thing is, being on here most of us know or witness people just like in the video. See it on the site here sadly, look at the AFA thread and a few people wanting to work on a real factual price guide for them....... Or go to a Con and smell the ones who don't bath One day people will realize, that yes at the end of the day you just have a giant toy collection, that's all it is. Also you can tell me what it is worth all you want, but it isn't worth a damned dime unless: A) U actually sell it B) someone actually pays you for it. Any other value is hypothetical until it physically takes place. PS If u have kids/nieces/nephews/etc that are well behaved and understand things well, why not let them take a swing at a MP figure with your supervision? My 5 yr old has handled mine from Soundblaster on when I'm in the room with him. The other night we did UM back to robot mode. Its a lot of fun. I even give him G1 to play with sometimes and he understands we transform them together.
