Same. To me Masterpiece figures are for those that want the 80s designs and looks of the characters. And that's totally fine. Me however, my tastes tend to stay to "modern". Updated looks on classic design, that benefits and enhances the figures/characters aesthetic for a fresh new feel.
If it came down to it , the only MP's I'd sell off would be my repaints. Tigertrack , silverstreak and G2 sideswipe. An the only reason I'd be selling them would be because id have to be going broke in every sense of the word.
That's funny cuz although I love the MP's, I'd sell them before I'd sell my buster or Asia Striker Prime, when in fact I could get way more cash for those two over any MP besides the likes of Quakewave or the igear seekers.
Why sell MPs? Because I've decided I don't need black repaints. What? You do? Then see my sig good sirs...
Kids on the way? Moving to an apartment in SoHo? Meth habit? Pure profit? Who knows?!? Why does anyone sell anything? I get the premise of the question - why buy an awesome $45-$200 toy only to sell it later. But the same could be said about any collection. I am knee deep in MP collecting and have been tempted to sell my MP-10 BAPE simply because of the price it is going for on eBay. It all depends on where you are in life and what is most important to you at that time. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I haven't yet but i have in mind to sell two of them, reasons?: Mp03 starscream because i just have the new mold and its pointless to have the same character twice (while im not rich at least..) Mp08 grimlock i loved at the beginig but i get tired of him. Everytime i see him i blame myself for going the hasbro way and not the more expensive takara, and more important yet, everytime i look at him it comes to my mind the crazy idea of having all the FT dinos which is something i can't affotd atm. If in the future FT or Gigapower as its seems will release their own ones i will pick one of those. I want a tall T Rex robot to stand with Optimus and the actual Mp grimlock is just to small, and overall feels like very old against modern mp. And of course money, space, not wanting a divorce etc may be a general reason.
MPs are the figures I've wanted since 1984. Only way I'd ever sell them is if I were in dire straights and exhausted all other options.
Collecting habits, preferences and all that change ever so often. Who knows, you might wake up one day and decide that you can do better things with money than have 4 figures with slight differences between them and different primary colours. I find myself more and more disinterested in plastic figures the more I grow up, and constantly downsizing. This year I managed to convince myself to get Legends Whirl and Hasbro Sandstorm, enjoying both of them in comics so far. Come next year, maybe I won'be that much into them, and I can already tell that Whirl is definitely not my favourite helicopter ever I have the G2 Bumblebee on preorder though, and even months before I actually have to pay for it, I contemplate why I got it and that the normal one is just enough.
I'm also wondering if Masterpiece collectors are beginning to realize they will be dead before the Masterpiece line reaches the current CHUG proportion of characters...even just those from 1984-86.
Agree. No one should sell their Transformers, especially the masterpiece collection. I'd rather be homeless, hungry and in desperate need of money then sell them to pay bills and provide food.
In all honesty, as a fan of the MP line I don't really care. CHUG has produced hundreds of figures but for me, most of them are decidedly unappealing. I would rather have a small collection of figures I like than a giant collection of figures that I find uninspired. Right now I already have too many 'regrets' in my collection. Fortunately, none of them have been MP figures.
So I'm talking to my best friend last night, he he goes "Why is Hasbro making a new Ultra Magnus. We have Masterpiece. They need to just stop. Never make another Magnus again, because it's pointless." I said "Some people don't collect Masterpiece." And he said "Then they're not true fans." I hate that attitude.
I have to agree TM2 Dinobot, after hearing about all the reviews and posts from people talking about MP Magnus Butt Flap I am so glad I passed on him,as for CW Leader Magnus all I can say is if he is anywhere near half as good as MP Magnus (which btw I seen the pics of CW Magnus this weekend) then he is beyond a suitable replacement for my Classics Magnus from 7 or 8 years ago. And he may not be Masterpiece quality but CW Magnus just puts Classics Magnus and the FP Armor to shame hands down. Finally about Minimus Ambus back a month or so ago I was against him but now I have done had a change of heart and kinda glad he is coming with Magnus, but I am not actually gonna use him as Magnus's inner robot self just more as a minicon accessory. And can anyone tell me which issues in the IDW Comics feature Minimus in them as I am going to a comic convention Saturday and want to find some with him in it.Thanks guys.
