We rename characters a lot, it's just playing pretend like when we were kids! I think it's cool to not just think of characters to fill "vacancies/slots" in your neo-classics/CHUG collection but to also think of ways to even repurpose toys that already have obvious homages if you'd like. (or even making decepticons into autobots and vice versa)

In this thread, anything goes and we're not looking for the definitive versions of characters necessarily, unless you want that!

It would be helpful if you gave some of your own thoughts on your request as well, maybe point out some things to consider.


I'll start with some requests of my own:

What do you guys think of ROTF Swerve? He's a remold of ROTF sideswipe in a nice red color with a black head. He's a cool movie sideswipe with nice G1 cosmetics. Really looks like an radical alternative to G1 sideswipe in a way that's pretty appealing to me. But I'm curious to what other characters, obscure or not, this toy is similar to. Or if he's not obviously similar to a past character/toy, does he makes you *think* or imagine any distant characters for whatever reason? What associations are strongest or interesting?

Some more personal thoughts on repurposing since I've gone crazy with it this past year and a half.


I started repurposing to fill slots in my G1 neo-classics collections but since then I just like doing it so I can find interesting or worthwhile toys from other lines that I might have overlooked. Sometimes I just want cool toys to have either less boring or more historical names. Since Masterpiece is doing a killer job of an idealized G1 cast, I've really embraced taking liberties with my Generations/Classics display and turning it into a melting pot of toys and characters. Like an expanded take on a transformers universe. I don't imagine OCs but some repurposed names are so obscure people might as well project onto them however they want!

But for this thread let's stick to names, concepts, and ideas we can dredge up from anywhere on any page of TFwiki. Think of it like stretching out the franchise.

With the Combiners Wars coming down the pipe there will likely be a few collectors looking to re-purpose various non-combing CHUG special team members...so are there any thoughts on who to re-purpose Universe SE Drag Strip as...

Okay, thread, here goes -
I got Takara's Ratbat.
So I repurposed Universe Ratbat as Mindwipe
Now I need to repurpose RotF Mindwipe as someone else!

 

Crosshairs - Cloud Roadbuster/Energon Ironhide thingie
Sureshot - Universe Hot Shot
Pointblank - SG Drift with Blurr parts partswapped and I went the full monty and got a new head.

That's what I am doing/did at least.

 

How about Skystalker?

 

You could dub him 'Vorath' after the original Mindwipe's Headmaster?

 

Here's a thought: stick the movie toy with your movie toys and call him Mindwipe.

 

Oooh, a thread for my current dilemma!

So I have a Classics/Movieverse Car Robots display on my main shelf. I'm using the newer Protectobots Hot Spot for Fire Convoy, AoE Hot Shot for Speedbreaker, and AoE Rollbar for Wildride. I'm currently using TFP Wheeljack for Mach Alert, but I feel like I could do better. Does anyone have any suggestions for a movie/CHUG cop car Autobot to use as Mach Alert/RiD Prowl?

 

I'm using Generations Sandstorm as Sureshot. I just ignore the flying mode. This spring when it's warm enough to paint outside, I'll paint his black parts red. That will really do it.

Generations Orion Pax makes a good Crosshairs. Again, some painting can help him along a bit further.

Not sure about Pointblank yet.

 

I'm considering picking up Cloud Roadbuster as my Crosshairs substitute.

 

He's my only movie toy besides Terradive. I do like the Skystalker suggestion though!

 

Mostly cause I'm curious to see if you come up with the same things I came up with...DotM Skyhammer.

Spitballing...BotCon Machine Wars Mirage, Actual Machine Wars Megaplex, GDO Megatron, GDO Springer, FoC Whirl and Roadbuster. Oh, and Prime Dead End.

Mirage could just be the Jhiaxus G2 Gobot Mirage (colors are off but...)...Megaplex not sure...I use GDO Megatron as G2 Archforce - Transformers Wiki...GDO Springer > http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/1012214-generations-obisdian.html...no clue on Roadbuster and Whirl but there are some named Wreckers without visuals and some comic only Wreckers such as Blocker, Crest, Piston and Valve if I'm not mistaken...Dead End is all Slice(r)...

If you don't like him as an Autobot then he could be the original use of the mold, Beast Machines Mirage (though the color scheme won't match).

 

I saw the Generations Legends Class Megatron for $5 and thought I would check it out. I wasn't sure where to fit him in my collection, but I decided I will use him as Slammer for Metroplex.

 

Yep, Skyhammer joined my Wreckers and renamed himself Rotorstorm, alongside ROTF Brawn who is now Roadbuster.
