I haven't picked up any original BW toys yet but am looking to do so in the near future so this thread will be handy!

Great list! BW figures were so great I'd add Big Convoy, Long Rack, Rockbuster and specify the 10th anniversary edition of Ultra Primal with the new face. Robotmasters Basic Primal was sweet too ~ i used to pose him with my Alternators because the scale was pretty on-point.

I'm also a big fan of the original Ultra Megatron, but specifically the Beast Machines T-wrecks redeco...

BW basic Snapper and Razorclaw are love.

Seriously both are incredibly fun figures and an all around joy to have. Only thing that sucks is Razorclaw tends to lose his arms due to that dang translucent plastic breaking where the balljoints pop in. Smaller arm especially.

BW is the only line where there are very few figures that aren't worth your time.

We should start a thread of figures that you can skip...it would go:

Injector, Jawbreaker, TM2 Cheetor and any repaints that don't float your boat. That's it. :)

It's all versions. The underlying figures are virtually identical. The Takara and Sonokong versions just have more paint on them.

The good news is that Siverbolt/Skywarp gets off relatively easy as GPS victims go. The area to really watch for is where the nape of the eagle's neck clips to the main body. Never seen it shatter in any other place.

I dunno. I happily skipped (or resold) most of the TM2 deluxes. The transformations tended to be overly simple, and some of them were downright hideous. The larger TM2s fared much better.

Before going in this thread, I swore if I saw even one post of Magnaboss, I will never pass on him again. I mean I held one at a MTL Toycon but let it go. 20$ complete I believe.

Also are there any other seafood looking alt modes like that crab guy? I have to say that as seafood lover it makes me want to make a platter display piece.

You're not wrong. The quality went down quite a bit in general in 1999...which is when they switched back from Kenner to Hasbro, no? In any case, the design team changed and a lot of the magic was lost. TM2 Megatron is far and away the best of the era but most of them are at least worth your time. (IMO)

I hated Jawbreaker/Cackle when I got it. TM2 Cheetor is also pretty bad, especially compared to the 1998 release (TM"1"). I knew something was changing for the worse and sure enough, Beast Machines was looming on the horizon.

I think Scourge is the TM2 I hated most. Out of the deluxes, Ramulus was my favorite. The others were generally kind of "meh". However, the larger TM2s--especially Megatron, Optimus, and Tigerhawk, are among my favorites of the entire Beast era.

I mostly try and get Generations update of BW characters so I love Rhinox & Waspinator but iffy on Rattrap.

Yet I really like the Big Convoy mold, I got Ultra Mammoth and I love this figure, highly recommend at least one version of the mold preferably Ultra Mammoth if you can afford it.

On the import side, my top must haves (besides those already mentioned by the OP) would be Longrack, Archadis, and Mach Kick.

I never had many Beast Wars toys, but of the ones I did have, I would recommend the following:

-Optimus Primal (bat) vs. Megatron (croc) set. - The set that started it all. This was a good beginning for Beast Wars and I would say the same to anyone just getting into collecting Beast Wars. Features both main leader characters and while the transformation is simple, both figures are super articulated in robot mode and the play value is definitely there.

-Optimus Primal (Gorilla) - This version of Primal also had a tone of play value and poses very well. Has a ton of features too from shoulder rockets, swords, hidden weapons too such as a arm rocket launcher and hidden mace. Also pretty articulate.

-Optimal Optimus - This to me is the perfect hybrid figure for those who still love G1 but are slowly getting into Beast Wars. A four mode figure with beast mode, robot mode, and 2 vehicle modes. Something for everyone. Just watch out for the vacuum chrome apps chipping.

-Transmetal Megatron - I never had the first T-Rex Megatron, but, imo, this is the definitive Beast Wars Megatron. He has a techo looking dinosaur mode (again perfect for those die-hard G1 fans getting into BW) and his robot mode is easily identifiable. WARNING - I would recommend getting the Takara Beast Wars Metals verison since the Hasbro version suffers from GPS.

-Razorbeast - Again a simple figure with a simple transformation but a ton of articulation and play value.

-Pre-TM Cybershark - Mainly recommend this for his unique hammerhead shark alt mode (this was before Sky-Byte).

    --------

-Cohrahda - From the import side, I would definitely recommend Cohrada. He has a snake alt mode and you would not think there would be much room to hide the robot mode parts but it works. Both beast and robot mode are tons of fun.

--> Speaking of Cohrada, I know this is a Beast WARS recommendation thread, but if you like Cohrada, I would also recommend Beast Machines Night Viper for the same reasons. :)

Other than Razorclaw, there's Seaclamp (a lobster), and Claw Jaw (a squid) I think that's it for realistic aquatic modes. Rampage is a king crab but he wouldn't look very appetizing.

Must haves..... more or less all Transmetals regardless of some earlier figures having flake issues. Ultimately, gotta have Optimal Optimus and Japanese version of Transmetal Tarantulas....oh and RAMPAGE!

If I remember correctly you're also the same person who helped with Magnaboss.

    Thanks again.

Don't personally agree with some on this list, but B'Boom has the best face sculpt in the entire line.

    Maybe even ever.
