Hello my friend, I found and purchased a Takara 15th anniversary Optimus Prime, factory sealed in its box, box in mint condition (photos attached).
Now the questions is: is unboxing it right or wrong in your opinion? What price would be if unopened in, say, 10 years?
I bought it to actually display with in my collection and I thought I would have unboxed it as far as I had in my hands but now I don't want to do a thing I probably would regret... so I would like to discuss this theme with you guys!
    What do you think?
And what do you think in general about this version of optimus prime? Someone say it's the best version because it's actually the closest to the original toy between the many reissues they made.

    Thanks!

I say leave it unopened then go and find a cheap G1 Optimus to mess around with but that's my opinion.

How much did you got it for. And currently how much is it going on the market today?

As cool as he is, I always found G1 optimus a surprisingly un-fun toy to to play with. He's a borderline-partsformer, his transformation sucks and the trailer has more articulation than the figure! you're not missing out on a huge amount leaving him in there. plus the boxart is really cool!

I've got no idea what it's worth, but if it's worth a non-trivial amount to you, keep it boxed and get a cheapo loose one to play with.

Do whatever you want with it as it is not worth much anyway. I think you can probably get it under $200. I just recently checked mine, and the rubber hose has literally crumbled to dust.

open the damn thing.. otherwise, what the hell are you paying for?.. if you're not going to open it, just take a photo of it, frame it, then sell the figure.

it's not like this is an original G1 figure in a perfect box.. i might be able to understand that, but this is a reissue.. just open it and enjoy it like it was meant to be enjoyed. right now it's just a box with a truck in it.. there's a damn robot in there!!!!

I'd leave him in the box. I'm a MISB collector myself so yeah. All my G1 reissues are all still sealed. My TFCC book style boxes are beautiful looking when displayed altogether.

At this point I'd leave him in the box. I always have a hard time opening figures that are older.

I would leave it in the box and get a loose one to display beside it if you don't already have one. I would think opening it would decrease the value by 1/2 if you ever plan on reselling it.

I agree with the majority. Don't open it and get a loose one. A loose OP is not hard to find or expensive.

If it wasn't still sealed, I'd say open it and have fun. I agree with the leave it in the box and find an open one to display.

I'd say keep it boxed. I'm not as big a MISB collector as I used to be and ultimately the decision is yours. But, a figure that old, I'd hate to open it and find its a defective unit. Hard to exchange a figure that old. I echo what some others have said, if you want one to display loose, I'd find a more recent reissue or a loose reissue or G1 original version.

Thank you my friends for you opinions... I think I will leave it in the box for now.
To those who asked: yes it's factory sealed, never been opened and I have no plans to re-sell it. I catched this version because it seems it's the most similar to the original 1984 prime I had when I was a child :)

If it's a mint box, go buy one that's loose or in a banged up box. It's not like there aren't a billion of those out there. The supply of mint MISB is low enough as it is.

Why open it when you can buy a way, way less valuable identical version and have zero regrets?

He asked for an opinion and I gave it...

Personally, I hate the "Toys as investments" sentiment... They're toys... Not gold, or oil, or orange juice... They're toys... If the only reason people give to not open a MISB item is they're looking to see how much it'll be in X amount of years, to me that someone looking to cash in on the hobby and not enjoy the hobby.

If anyone on these boards asks in an open form "Should I open...?", 10 times out of 10 I will tell them to open it. Otherwise, what's the point?

I got back into tfs about 8 years ago, always MISB, but lately ive been of the mind "am i going to find a better version later on? Am i going to want to sell it for something better?" Kind of attitude. So, for weeks afyer picking up MP-03 (Grimlock), i decided it best to open it and not wonder about QC issues. It was a little floppy, but not as floppy as I had been led to believe they are. I have no regrets about openibg this guy up because I know he will never get the value as the original release.

Is your prime valuable? Yes? Will it increase in value? Sure, but nowhere near an original, G1, MISB. So go ahead and open it if you succumb to the urge as it wont be a huge loss, but as others have said, see how much an unboxed one will cost you.
