Like most TF saddos unfortunate enough to have a lovely wife + kids, most of my awesome boystuff ended up lasagna'd in bubblewrap and sealed in boxes. However recently we bought a slightly bigger place and i've finally started unboxing my crap after like 3 years of it sitting in storage.

I'm kid-at-xmas excited about it all! More than that the things i was most hyped to see coming out out the packing peanuts generally weren't the highend figures - i've been pleasantly surprised to be pleasantly surprised by a load of stuff that had previously been... well... pretty much collection filler.

I'm sure most of you guys have had the same thing, what were your biggest unboxing surprises? for me my top 3 finds of the evening were (in no particular order)

    * Super hip-kibble Hasbro MP Skywarp - despite easily being the cheapest (and arguably the shittest) MP i own i'd totally forgotten how awesome that seeker mold was. I was also smuggo smuggins for remembering to clingfilm his hands to stop his index fingers popping off whilst packaged. Go me.

    * 90% complete Energon 'worst grail ever' Unicron - he's big, he's black, he's worth sod all, and he cost me a fucking fortune to buy in parts of ebay. All the same i was chuffed as a chaffer to see him and now he is TOTALLY FREAKING DOMINATING a plantstand for want of anywhere more sensible to put him.

    * Some ropey War for Cybertron megs/prime black repaints. Christ knows what they are but i didn't even remember i'd bought them. ehobby or something i guess? Either way I sat on the floor like a 7 year old and played with them for longer than strictly necessary because they are cool as hell.

My biggest disappointment was Shite Starwars combiner Millennium Falcon, which was somehow, against all odds, actually worse than i remembered.

edit. i have just noticed all my new faves were black repaints. i don't know what to make of that. :D

A few years back, I found all my G1 figures I thought were long lost. They were in a nondescript box in my mother's attic at one point, and when she decided to purge her antiques, she gave me a pile of things she thought I'd want. The Transformers included a complete Devastator, Metroplex, Predaking, Grimlock and Slag, many minibots and a few other assorted goodies.
I also have those old huge Shogun Warriors boxed as well. I thought they were gone for sure.

Unfortunately, no. This was before I had a digital camera (years ago), and they're back in storage in a much safer place.
What was cool was finding a huge ziplock bag full of the 'dangerous' projectiles they used to shoot- axes, throwing stars, missiles...

I moved into a bigger space a few months back and was pleasantly surprised to finally be able to display ALL my MP's again. I guess here are the top 3, in order of excitement level.

    3) MP Black Rodimus Prime - Love his paint scheme, and he helps fill out the Decepticon ranks nicely, what with all the jets.

    2) MP Grimlock - Looks great in both modes. Still trying to decide if he'll be displayed in bot or dino mode, though.

    1) MP 10 Prime - Can't believe I ever put him storage. This guy is my favorite MP figure ever made.

For me it would be Hasbro MP Rodimus. I was initially afraid to touch him since I've heard stories of parts breaking. Fortunately, I seem to have a decent piece that was able to withstand play from my 7yr old and 5yr old sons. The chest unhinges a lot and we had a thumb pop off but that's about it.

For non-TF toys, I pulled out a VF-25S Bandai kit and actually transformed it without anything breaking. Same goes for a VF-25F. As opposed to Rodimus, I suddenly remembered why I put these 2 into storage.

One... day I was in the attic of my parents house taking out the christmas dicorations and I found a taped up box which contained a few beast wars figures and alternator's, G1 etc.

    THEY WERE DUSTY.

It would have been even more of a disappointment if it had succumbed to GPS while you were messing with it. Thanks to my paranoia about that issue, I have no intention of ever transforming mine back into the crappy robot modes.

Oh totally. I moved to this place from my tiny apartment three years ago. I suppose my greatest surprise figure from unboxing was I had forgotten how cool Universe Onslaughts colors are, one of the best ultras ever.

I'll often be storing away figures to make room for new stuff and decide to have a quick root through my other storage boxes. Next thing I know I've spent an hour pulling out figures and transforming them and umming and ahhing over if I should bring some of these things back out for display.

It's incredibly dangerous for me to open the box I have all my RID stuff stored in as the compulsion to bring the Autobot Brothers, Rail Racer, Optimus and Magnus back out for display is just overwhelming. I daren't even go near my boxes of G1 stuff or I fear I'll never come back up for air.

Some people ask why I bother keeping stuff if it's just going to be stored away unseen, but it's for the magic moments of 'Yeah, I forgot just how cool these are' that I get that old buzz back in a day and age of becoming increasingly jaded with the franchise.

I'd certainly love enough room to put everything out on display, but then I also wonder if easy access at any time might actually make me lose that feeling of rediscovering the buzz of handling a stored-away figure I've just randomly unearthed while putting away something else.

Oh god yeah, i'm totally with you on that - I suspect like many long term fans my interest in the franchise waxes and wanes with the toylines, so digging out some forgotten favourites always sucks me right back in!

The unboxing will continue tonight... I fear may be making a trip to the Swedish house of flatpacked-dreams for some new cabinets this weekend!

Sounds like you are having great fun!

I opened a large cardboard box only to find it was filled with empty Galaxy Force and Micron Legend boxes :redface2:

i get to look forward to unboxing figures i put in storage before moving overseas next summer. mostly extra figures and empty boxes, but i'm 99.9% sure my blue Diaclone Trailbreaker ended up in there.
