Stinger was one of my favorite parts of AOE. I loved his design, his idea, and the fact that they decided to make the "Red Bumblebee" evil. However, it seems like Hasbro isn't going to make a deluxe toy of him at this rate, so I was thinking of an alternative. That '07 Cliff they made for the first movie MIGHT work. Stinger's only toys that are repaints of Bee just have his normal head, and overall, this works enough, and I could see a Cliffjumper along with my Galvatron and Lockdown figures. But I was wondering what other people thought of this idea, so I decided to make a post about it (I don't frequent the TFW forums), and see what the community thought of it. I don't know, has it been thought of already? Maybe someone's already had this idea? Maybe someone will take a picture of the three AOE baddies together and see if this works as a Stinger fill-in. Me personally, I think it would do the job. Barely, but it would do it.
I only have the old camaro version of this mold (which I know is roughly the same size), and the AOE Bee figures stand SLIGHTLY shorter, I'm talking a centimeter or so. That's to be expected, but since when is scale something TF collectors have as a luxury? I'd say it works overall, but this is coming from the guy who can live with leader Prime trying to fight voyager Galvs.
Not a bad idea but he's a tad larger than the AOE deluxe Bee and IMO the design doesn't blend well with AOE toys.
Yeah, compared to how smooth and organic the designs of AOE were, Cliffjumper as Stinger is really gonna stick out, but that's the route I'm going. I have zero customization skills with paint so I don't think I'd ever try to paint a new Bumblebee red. I mean, I already have ROTF Swerve, a SIDESWIPE repaint standing in on my shelf as Dino since I can only dream of being able to afford the deluxe Takara made, so Cliff as Stinger is no different...
I not only support using that "Cliffjumper" as Stinger, I demand that Hasbro make all red Bumblebees Stingers from now on! Not because I love Stinger so much, but because I hate the Red Bee=Cliffjumper repaints with a passion.
that looks like a horrible stand in. it's an old red bumblebee. stinger's design (along with new bumblebee's design) is way different. why not throw any red robot in there?.. how bout first edition cliffjumper? RID knockout?.. or WFC sideswipe.. plus, the reds are just WAY off, the design is completely different, the aesthetic is different, and the head is different.. there's literally nothing about red 07 bumblebee that looks remotely like stinger. they're both different shades of red sports cars, if that's enough for a substitution, then go for it.. but for me, it's not. not by a long shot.
I had this idea too, but TFTM Deluxe Cliffjumper is taller than AOE Deluxe Bee. I have also thought of using TFTM Legends Cliffjumper as Stinger.
I'm just going to settle for this guy until we get a proper one. Frankly, I'd just take the new Bumblebee in red with no changes. Of course, I'd want it altered to have the correct alt mode, but frankly I'd take anything close just to have more TF4 bad guys.
It's disappointing that we have to keep having discussions like this: "Well, it looks like Hasbro won't be making a toy of main character X, so who can I use to stand in for him?" Maybe 3rd party will come to the rescue on this one, even though they couldn't use the Huyara, and have yet to touch movie-verse with any full figures yet.
I agree that Movie 1 Cliff looks like a downgrade to AOE Bumblebee, but when Hasbro leaves me no other choice, I live with what I got. I think it could work for someone who's not really all that picky with their TFs. I just imagine owning this Cliff and having it next to Galvs, it looks pretty nice. Red Bumblebee is Red Bumblebee to me, and Hasbro isn't making a single "red bumblebee" toy (besides the Dino Rider). All of them are molds that really don't work.
Maybe, if they changed those grinding neck gears, gave it a transforming hand/cannon, did away with that floppy waist...
