Hello, I recently came across a MISB energon scorponok, and as I was STOKED to get one MISB, both shoulders proptly crumbled as I tf'd it 1st try. Does anyone know of a GOOD fix for this? anyone make replacement parts?
I never go to the jet mode, that way those parts don't get stressed. The joints most likely to break only get used for that mode. Now that it's broken, there isn't anything you can do except replace those parts.
Did not know he had this issue. My first one broke but I didn't realize it was an actual issue on the figure. Might have to get that shapeways kit....
It's not actually GPS from what I understand, even the botcon versions of the mold with no gold plastic at all are at risk. It's just a good old fashioned design flaw, from what I recall you just need to do some sanding to reduce the stress being applied to those parts.
There is also discussion (in some allspark.com thread I think) about the shoulder pieces being assembled backwards. I'll see if I can find it edit: okay there is some discussion here: http://www.allspark.com/forums/topic/103568-botcon-2014-superthread/page-107 I'm still not clear on whether assembling it the other way is supposed to make it less likely to break.
This video should give all the information needed on the scorponok shoulder issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHXKDmxeuHs
Thanks guys! Anyone have experience ordering these things? I have none. I have the original release, and they are gold, with blue recessed detail. What should I order from this store? I meant to order a long time ago, but just picked this up again and seen I need to fix it. White strong and flexible (with texture) seems to be the best idea for paint to stick to it real good.
Intreasting I never got the instructions with mine I didn't know that part moved looking at pictures I perfer my fan mode so im fine lol
Ive had 2 and both of mine broke. This one broke right out of the box, it was MISB and I opened it less than a year ago I think. What Fan mode?
I'm not entirely sure it can be considered GPS as much as a design flaw combined with less than ideal quality plastic, as opposed to Gold Plastic Syndrome which is a case where metallic flakes in the plastic cause it to bond poorly and literally crumble with next to no effort. The plain truth of it is that there's a problem in Skorponok's shoulder assemblies, seems to be primarily in the joint used to transform him into his "space cruiser" mode. I've transformed mine back and forth between his scorpion-esque vehicle mode and his robot mode tons of times with no problems, but one attempt to go into the space cruiser mode and they broke. Glued them into place so that he can still transform between his other two modes without issue. As far as I know, this issue affects ALL iterations of the Energon Skorponok mold, all of which are differently colored if I recall correctly.
UPDATE! OK, I recieved my shapeways parts. Im going to install them and I will post a tutorial if they work out. BUT! Does anyone know..EXACTLY what position these are supposed to be in? The video in previous link was not 100%..and Ive googled searched ..I just cant seem to find a concensus to exacltl how they should be when its done proper. Does any on e that has a scorpinok, care to help, and TF into all three modes and see if there is a problem in any way they work? These parts I got were the recommended. Honestly..This is my 1st 3d printed items ive ordered. Ive handled some..and these dont seem very robust. I think its gunna be hit or miss. could work..could snap from being turd parts. THATS why I wanna make sure I get the position all right, because I will try all 3 modes.
