Taking a trip to Tokyo in December. Hoping to do some shopping for TFs, gunpla kits, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best places to shop? Thanks.

If you want new, TT exclusive TFs, you might be able to set up a Japanese Amazon account and send some stuff to your hotel address? This is the Amazon product page for Transformers in Japan:

However, if you don't want to, or can't do that (and you don't mind paying more for the same stuff) you'll need to check out the various shops in Japan, such as Toys R Us, Yamada Denki, Yodobashi Camera, Kojima Denki (which sometimes have shop-exclusive figures), plus toy departments in places like Aeon Mall, Ito Yokada and other department stores (although they rarely have most transformers). Another source for older toys are places like "Madarake" (In Akihabara, Nakano Broadway, etc - Mandarake Shop Information ) and "Liberty" in Akihabara. Be warned that places like Mandarake can sell really good deals for rare figures and rip-offs for cruddy-quality KO or broken/incomplete TFs (avoid the ones in plastic bags, without packaging).

    Hope this helps.

Most of the Bic and Yodobashi Cameras have good selection of Gunpla kits, but Tf's not so much.

Mandarake has many stores around the Tokyo to checkout and Akihabara in general has many places to visit.

Also, in may when I was in Tokyo, I found the generations Punch/Counterpunch from Odaiba shoppingcentre for like 3800 yen. My previous posts includes a picture of the receipt.

Also, one of the Mandarakes was an underground maze filled with manga and toys. The name eludes my mind right now. Nakano broadway Mandarake complex has many stores selling transformers and other toys.

Dunno if this helps or not.

Also, check the thread in my signature. Lots of good advice in there aswell, including the pic I mentioned.

I will try and hit as many of these as time allows. I will have a full day to shop, but will only be in Japan for a few days so shipping to hotel is out. Thanks.

If you only have one day to shop, I suggest you concentrate only on Akihabara.

Mandarake has lots of old and new Transformers on show, Suragaya (if I remember the name right) has also transformers aswell as the stores on the Radio Kaikan building.

Yodobashi Camera has its main store there with oodles of Gundams and other toys. Only Transformers are lacking.

Bic Camera has some gundams and other toys aswell but not like Yodobashi.

There are also lots of stores selling other toys aswell.

Once there, pick up the tourist area map from the infocenter, almost all stores in the area are listed there with colourcodes for ease of use.

And when you get hungry, drop in on Carl's Junior on the main street.

Other place worth visiting is the Mandarake Nakano Complex.

After exiting the trainstation, you walk through a shopping street with the complex at the end of it.

Back from the dead... These are good suggestions for Tokyo, does anyone know anything about stores in Okinawa? I've seen some newer figures at San-A and some used figures at 2nd Street, Hard-Off, and Manga Souko. Where else can I look?

Recently went to Akihabara and decided to check out their Bic Camera, which is an electronics store chain that's all over Tokyo. Pretty decent TF section on the top floor that had the following:

    Earthspark
Supatto Change for 1,760 yen (1-Step Changer Optimus, Megatron, Bumblebee, Twitch, Swindle)
Deluxes for 3,080 yen (Bumblebee, Twitch, Optimus, Megatron)
Spin Changers Bumblebee and Optimus (with the kids) for 5,090 yen

Beast Wars Again 03 Cheetor vs Waspinator for 5,240 yen

Masterpiece MPG Suiken for 19,000 yen

Canon Camera Nemesis Prime for 18,800 yen

    Rise of the Beasts
Studio Series Cheetor for 4,840 yen
Mainline Deluxe Bumblebee & Mirage for 3,310 yen (wrong shelf)
    Mainline Rhinox for 4,840 yen
Rolling Change (Flex Changer) Bumblebee for 2,180 yen (wrong shelf)
Kakusei Change Armors for 2,640 yen (Beast Combiners Scourge, Optimus Prime & Primal)
Kakusei Change Set for 2,190 yen (Weaponizer Arcee, Wheeljack)
Kakusei Change standard for 1,320 yen (Battle Charger Bumblebee, Rhinox, Optimus, Scourge)
Kakusei Weapon for 975 yen (Weaponizer Airazor, Rhinox)
Papapatto Change Rhinox (Smash Changer) for 3,520 yen

    Legacy Evolution
Deluxes for 3,460 yen (Beachcomber, Devcon, Axlegrease, Shrapnel)
Voyagers for 4,660 yen (Metalhawk, Twincast)
    Leader Skyquake for 6,600 yen

Studio Series '86 Snarl for 6,580 yen

Considering how sparse some TF sections are in any Toys R' Us's around Tokyo and other toy stores, I'd say this is a pretty safe bet for some newer figures from the Takara side of things if you want to find anything physically. Happy hunting!

I'm heading off to Japan next month--does Bic still stock Snarl? Would like to grab some hard to find figs, if I can.

I'll have to go back and check sometime, but I don't see why they wouldn't. If not at this one, then there are other Bics that are in the major areas around Tokyo you can check.

You're welcome! Also, be sure to check out Mandarake Complex in Akihabara, Mandarake UFO in Nakano Broadway, and Mandarake Nayuta in Ikebukuro. Great stops for back-collecting if you're going to have a lot of yen to spare!
