Those who saw the episode Deadlock will remember that more than one Autobot took a likely fatal hit. Although Bumblebee's fatality was played through in the episode there were two other obvious fatalities that were not even acknowledged.

    1) Optimus Prime :rip  : during his battle with Megatron he took not one but Two obviously fatal hits from the Dark Star Sabre, the second at point blank range

    2) Smokescreen :rip  : in the attempt to pass the Star Sabre to Optimus took a Direct Hit from Shockwave's fusion cannon

Now I don't know the dark energon status of either but not much else would explain why either would still be up and moving around at this point

Plot armor is more powerful than mystical swords made out of the blood of an evil God.

I just take it that since Optimus was reforged by The Hammer, he is the closest thing to an ancient Prime, making it unlikely he can be one shot by anything (They were both forged by the same thing).

Smokescreen was only really hit in the arm (stupid lack of depth perception), but It could have looked a lot worse than a burn texture. Maybe having his shoulder housing blown off. Nothing that can't be fixed/healed, but would look like it hurt.

Optimus' new armor protected him, plus if you look close after that hit his chest is cracked. In Smokescreen's case, people have been shot in the chest before in the show and didn't die.

Wheeljack got buried under a mountain by Predaking and climbed out...why are you shocked by all this? Also, we can't be sure of which shot killed BB, he was hit like 3 or 4 times...he could have easily survived one shot. There does seem to be some kind of discrepancy though in regards to the strength of EVERYONE's weapons...with the exception of Ratchet. He's gonna cut you up man!

This is still what pisses me off most about Prime (despite the fact that on the whole I like the show) is the failed promise of true consequences from the start of it.

65 episodes later and the autobot body count is ONE and he died in episode two to show us that "anybody could die." Except, well, no one did other than plot bots and three deceptions (ironically two of which had the most oppotrunity for character development). The thing is, it's expected for villans to lose and die by the end of a show so their deaths don't have an impact on the general structure or tone of the show. Despite this there were several opportunities to kill characters and variosu points that could have done wonders for the show

Bulkhead could have died during the Tox-en episode
Wheeljack or Ultra Magnus could have died during the Predaking fight
Ratchet could have died in the climax
Optimus could have stayed dead at the end of season 2 allowing for a new Prime

All of these were easily workable and instead they faked out on two of those and just never bothered with consequences. Frankly the Autobots never felt like they were in any sort of trouble no matter how dire the characters were telling us the situation was.

    Compare this to

G1 - Death count for autobots (admittedly due to the movie) tremendous
Beast Wars - Three deaths for Maximals
Beast Machines - Two or three (depending on if you want to count Noble and Rhinox/Tankor)
Animated - Two or Three (due to the early end of the show counting Blurr and Ultra Magnus is slightly difficult) but the one death they went with had a huge impact and stood to affect the show's dynamic thereafter

And Seaspray if you only count actual episodes as canon, right?

But, I agree, the show gave a false impression that Autobots were mortal in this show.

And it's not like there weren't openings in the plot to take out some Autobots. Pretty much everyone's conflicts were resolved by the end, so anyone would have been expendable.

Tailgate too, but he was just a plot device.

I really wouldn't count Tailgate and Seaspray as Autobot casualties (not in the same sense that Dreadwing or Breakdown were Decepticon casualties, at least). The only reason they were even brought into the show was just to be killed. No sense of loss when you were introduced only five seconds ago.

Does anyone else see the little G1 Shockwave eye in his cannon?

    Awesome.

How do Dreadwing and Breakdown count as casualties? Both were murdered by people on their own sides. Tailgate and Seaspray at least got killed by someone who wasn't on their team.

He was really tacked on. It ended up making Arcee unintentionally the black widow instead of Airachnid.

I am less interested in the technical definition (in this case "a person killed or injured in a war or accident") and more in how the word here is perceived. Bullying covers a wide variety of interactions, but when the word is used to describe something, there's really only one interaction that comes to mind. Likewise casualty which conjurs up less the image of a dead person and more that said person died in battle (or by accident).

Ex: Skyquake was a casualty of Optimus and Bumblebee, Dreadwing was murdered by Megatron.
