I hope the writers steal your idea because it's a great theory. :thumb

I whole heartily agree with this point of view. I specially like how Shockwave is such a Deus Ex Machina if need be. I`m hoping he creates Ravage for Soundwave...at least Ravage :(

Because this is the Aligned continuity, and we know how the Aligned continuity works at this point. The different media are all based on the same bible, and given that both FoC and Exodus did it, "Trypticon is the Nemesis" is obviously in the bible.

Not necessarily. Milne did it and FOC might've just liked the idea. There was absolutely zero implication that the Nemesis in Prime was ever anything more. Absolutely zero.
Fact is, "Flying Minds" was the opportunity to introduce or imply or even suggest that Nemesis was something more or used to be something more, and the writers chose not to. I think that makes it pretty clear that in Prime the Nemesis is not Trypticon. It doesn't matter what FOC and Milne's trashy story did, as far as we can tell there is no reason to believe that Prime did.

Yes, there is - the fact that those other stories did it. You can deny all you like, but this is how we understand the Aligned continuity to work. If two of the three pieces of media basing themselves on the bible did something, then - while your scenario is not IMPOSSIBLE, I grant - it's FAR more likely that's because they've both independently drawn it from the bible. And anyway, I DID stipulate "barring any Aligned continuity snafus" in my original post, precisely because of the various moments of dis-continuity between game, book and cartoon that might make this not come to be. Though you really seem to be ascribing too much to Irvine - he said himself he never played WFC, so he wasn't drawing from the game in his depiction of its events, but from the bible, and he *certainly* didn't create the Thirteen and their lore - that was all Hasbro again, right out of the bible.

As for Trypticon being the Nemesis in the cartoon... you say there's no suggestion of it. Then why, unlike *every other non-living object* brought to life with Dark Energon in the cartoon, is the Nemesis NOT a slavering zombie, but instead perfectly coherent - as if revived from stasis with Dark Energon, just as Megatron was? The episode doesn't *confirm* anything, no, but where it COULD have gone in a route that ruled out the possibility, it does just the opposite.

(Also you're mixing up your Alexes. :) )

We sure do. We know that these stories share parts of history and characters and nothing more. If they were the same story, they’d have more in common, which they obviously don’t. There are interview with those in charge talking about how they were in charge of their own stories, interpreting Cybertron’s past as they saw it.

I couldn’t find the exact interviews I was looking for but the ones below pretty much point to what I’m getting at.

Alex says that Shockwave himself built/reanimated Trypticon, but we saw in FOC that it was Megatron and Soundwave did that.

In Transformers Prime, the Nemesis is the Nemesis, nothing more--Megatron told us that nothing on happens on his ship without him knowing about it; he knows his ship, in and out.

I'm not saying the Nemesis won’t/can’t become Trypticon in time, but at the moment it is just a ship.

No, based on that, I don't think you DO understand the Aligned continuity. It's NOT "all one story". It's a variety of stories that are all drawing from a single story bible, with shared points of broad-strokes continuity derived from that document, but also many differences owing to the freedom the creators of the difference pieces of media - described in the quotes you provide - are afforded in telling their individual stories. The common point of origin is enough for Hasbro to call it a single continuity, but even they have admitted that it doesn't all line up, requiring a viewer to "squint" (Aaron Archer's word) at best to fudge the details together.

As such, the fact that two different pieces of media working from this document both chose to present Trypticon becoming the Nemesis - in different ways, in-line with the creative freedom they enjoy - says to me, "that's in the bible." But of course, it may never be reflected in the cartoon. Or the show may indeed feature the ship's transformation into Trypticon in the present day, like you propose, adhering to the bible's presentation of the Nemesis and Trypticon as the same being but in a different way. But RIGHT NOW, it is in no way illogical to form a theory based on the idea that the ship is already Trypticon, especially since at all points in "Flying Mind" where the idea COULD have been rendered impossible, dialogue and actions by characters go out of their way to leave the possibility open.

    Plot advancement, nothing more.

If the Nemesis was intended to be Trypticon then I'm sure Megatron would know not to use Dark Energon on it, because it would bring him back online.

Not really, according to Fall of Cybertron at least. In the game it was stated by Soundwave that (at least as far as they knew), once they turned Trypticon into the Nemesis, it would never turn back or regain consciousness. So, in essence, Megatron had no reason to believe that dark energon would awaken the ship (or Trypticon...depending on what you make of the continuity).

So no, for all intents and purposes, dark energon was not supposed to bring Trypticon back online...at least as far as everyone was concerned.

I really don't see how this differs from what I said in post #18 and the ones that followed. I know all look to the Transformers bible, and I'm well aware that each group is putting their own spin on those events. That said they don't have to use everything in that bible. HMS didn't want to use the 13 Primes or their godly weapons. There goal right out the gate was to make a prequel to G1--the bible is completely compatible with the old origin tale.

    Edit:

I'll have to read Exiles again, but wasn't Trypticon conscious? I thought the ship took control at one point in the story while pursuing the Autobots...

Well, I haven`t managed to read the books. Mostly because I can`t find the newest one...blame it on Borders closing, now I have no place to find books, comics or manga.

Actually, Soundwave only says Trypticon wil never be able to change back. The two (him and Megatron) just assume he'll never wake up.
Also, Trypticon was Starscream's space station during the events of WfC.

Wrong; people need to go back and replay the game, paying closer attention to what is said, seen and done during the first, second, second last and last levels. This is a really common mistake people are constantly making. Probably due to Exodus saying that the ship was Trypticon prior to the events of the book and then later forgetting about that and saying Shockwave just made it Trypticon.

Trypticon was not the station, at all. His alt mode was a gigantic cannon. He attached himself to the front of the station during the last two levels in order to take advantage of the Energon Bridge Starscream had set up in the second level, to power up his guns. In the Aerialbots level, you start off by shutting down the station, only for them to release that the cannon, which is not part of the station, is alive. You then leave through the station into the cannon and its revealed to be Trypticon. It is very clear that the cannon (which was not on the station in the first level if you look) and the station are two separate things that have been connected.

In the Fall of Cybertron, not Transformers Prime nor Exodus.
This was true in Alex Irvine's book, IIRC, but I don't think this is true for WFC.

"Exiles", however, notes that Trypticon's sentience and ability to transform are considered lost, potentially forever. Again, we're looking at something simple from the bible - a sentence that might read something like "to follow the Autobots off Cybertron, Trypticon transforms into the Nemesis, but at the cost of his sentience and ability to transform" - which has then been interpreted and fleshed out in two different ways by High Moon and Irvine in their respective works.

Trypticon is most DEFINITELY the space station in "Exodus," where it is even named "Trypticon Station". As is about par for the course with Irvine slapdashery, there are two confusing, potentially-contradictory explanations for why the station is alive. But, anyway, it's definitely him. I never really thought about it when it comes to WFC, it's certainly vague enough in the game itself.

Actually, he's in some sort of coma and it's stated that Trypticon would forever be stuck in spaceship mode. Using Dark Energon on it would most definitely bring him back online.

I think turning Trypticon into the Decepticons' ship is a very fun idea, but pretty much nothing in TF Prime points to this. The episode where it becomes sentient is a pretty standard, formulaic story that plays out exactly like you'd think it would. If at time of writing that episode it was already decided the Nemesis is Trypticon in algined continuity, the writers did their absolute best to hide that fact.

I think the stance of TF Prime is: it's in continuity with other products, but let that not stop you from writing what you want, because we don't want to limit you telling a story. Which is fine, but that doesn't make it a continuity.

I'd like to congratulate you: you've given this more thought than the writers. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with Shockwave though, and I'm also sure the plot will not be used in further episodes (like pretty much every interesting plotpoint in TF Prime). Shockwave was supposed to die in the one episode he appears in. It's only because some people on the creation team argued that it should be ambiguous enough to be able to bring him back if needed - which is exactly what they're doing now, now season 3 asks for a way to bring the ancient Predacons into the fight. 'lol I found them when I was stuck in spacebridge dimension'.

Color me surprised if they actually will continue with the Nemesis/Trypticon plot in Season 3, but for now my guess is it will just float around Megatron's fortress and be sidelined.

I don't see why it matters, as the end result is the same. Be it Irvine's story or HMS' Trypticon is just a ship. Will he truly remain this way forever? Who knows, but if HMS is still determined to flesh out the G1 cartoon into a better story, I'd say it is pretty safe to assume Trypticon will somehow return. Afterall, the original Trypticon is part of the Transformers future, not its past.

Trypticon was attached to the station, though. You can see it attached to the station, which is made of a different color.

I've been trying to locate Trypticon's concept art from WFC, but haven't found it as yet. The pic showed him in, what I believe was his cannon mode, he definitely wasn't a space station.
