I definitely think the show could use some fun. It's lacking in that department.

Going all the way with the story = / dark.

And dark = / good storytelling. It would be better for them to focus on telling a good story instead of trying to fill some kind of "darkness" quota. The most important things are character and story. Everything else tends to fall in to place in a "natural" way if you get those right.

And some of the best stories come from knowing when to strike a balance of seriousness and fun, drama and humor, etc.....

An example of what I would see as NOT going all the way with story? Orion Pax. Not because it needed to be grimdark, but because they lost the opportunity to explore and add new dimension to Prime by restoring his memory too early. A story like having Prime with no memory would've led to some drama and seriousness, but also some fun and humorous situations, which would all sharpen character dynamics. A balance.

I love a good dramatic story myself. But having the other elements in there when its natural to do so just makes a story more well rounded and enjoyable. It also makes the "darker" moments count.

Completely agreed but, not having the liberty to include death and consequences to requires a level of dark tone.

Breakdown getting riped apart, Silas getting crushed, Optimus Prime breaking his moral integrity to kill Megatron (in the cave)are tones that may not be possible without a darker tone.

I don't write the show but if the tone needs to be darker for the sake of story telling I am all for it otherwise it.

Damn, did you guys not even read the first post or did you just stop at the word Wikipedia?

He already said in the first post that, yes it was from Wikipedia, but he wasn't claiming it to be true. He was posting something he thought interesting and wanted to get thoughts/opinions on it.

We don't need to do this every time someone mentions Wikipedia.

I know this may sound unpopular with a lot of people but I don't find Prime to be that depressing at all. Sure it's pretty dark but not on the levels of what I consider to be very extreme like Evangelion. I can understand the want for more fun content but that dosen't mean there's a lack of it. I mean as much as I'm not a big fan of Miko I do think she does bring in pretty fun moments when she's not being stupid. That and we do have humorus moments with Starscream, and Knockout. Even there's fun jokes around evey now and then.

Personally I think Prime has a good balence with the whole dark and light tone thing. And it's more cenematic so there's going to be moments of dark tensions that are on more of a movie level. And as much as Beast War's humor was fun it does go a bt overboard with the humor going to the levels of Looney Tunes which I feel is a little out of place. It works for characters like Waspinator but not for Dinobot and Blackarachnia.

I'm liking Season 2 just as much as Season 1. I guess I'm just simple to please. I wish more people were like that.

Kinda the same for me. Maybe I'm just some kind of weird psychopath or something, but when I hear people going how dark and depressing and unwatchable the show is, I'm just confused.

Maybe the fact that I sometimes watch this show with my 5 year old nephew clouds my view since he fucking loves this show and can't get enough of it, the kid's pretty much put all his animated toys into storage now.

But maybe he's a psycho too????????????

Honestly They keep switching writers. Hell Marty Isenberg now writes in Season 2, most probably didn't get the memo.

If someone remembers it, Synth-En will come back at some point.

Wait so now we're considering Prime as dark? I loathe agreeing with Kaijuguy, but Prime's nothing compared to LoK and Yakone's kids, YJ and faking character deaths while making everyone fucking mourn or the Clone Wars and just being Star Wars with massacres and a damn war with huge armies and dealing with political problems.

I'm surprised they talked nick into allowing that scene on the boat. that was almost nihilistic

The backstory of Amon in the LoK was pretty dark and sad not to mention the demise of him was pretty shocking.

Prime can be rather dark in some places no doubt about it espically in episodes like Predatory but it's nothing that I would consider to be too much to bear upon. Thankfully it's not too light hearted to the point of being stupid.

The shows pretty dark already, Id say if the rating is changing, its to better suit the already darker-than-normal show. IMO the "darker" the better, more emotion :)

I think what is key is if the show became darker for the sake of story, would anyone be against it?

Outside of rage fits and boring speeches, there isn't really emotion, actually, only outside of rage fits.

I mean more emotion from the viewer. If u really appreciate the show youll really get into it. I do. As for the emotion on the show itself, obviously we see things differently.

Everybody finds something to whine about. I'm sure plenty of people will be against it, but that's not saying anything for the load of other people who are on the oppisite spectrum.

I'd actually be quite happy if Prime becomes darker. I'd like more drama, more complex themes.

But I think it also needs to be a bit more dynamic. Smooth shifting from lighthearted and touching moments to dark and painful moments.

As I stated before, the relationships between the autobots is too dry. The autobots don't seem to have enough chemistry. They need to feel like they love and care for each other like a family. That way the audience feels the significance of the loss.

Take for example the loss of Fred Burkle in Angel. They developed her relationship with Wesley in the episodes prior to her death. Then at the pinnacle of happiness, they pluck her away, and leave Wesley a withering mess.

Let people feel the difference between heaven and hell. I don't think its enough if everything is luke warm.

    Seriously, whatever happened to this?

    "Friend of yours?"
    "Family."

Oh yeah, forgotten, tossed in the gutter and replaced with life threatening situations with Bulkhead and storytime with Uncle Ratchet.

Again I blame the fact they get a bajillion wirters instead of keeping the same ones.

The previous writers are the ones who want the story to continue but the new ones write over them and do their own thing.

THey just need the person who wrote Stronger, Faster back and voila! Syth-En is back.

Perhaps Bulkhead's possible death might bring back that drama, even though I never believed it actually left. Even during the recovery stages, whether he's alive or not, will lead to caring, and possibly make everyone question their connections with each other and their charges.
